No Winglets?
Hey,
I was just taxiing out yesterday in yyz and noticed a westjet 737 without winglets (its fully painted and everything). Anybody know why it doesn't have them installed?
Thanks

Re: No Winglets?
The 600's do not have winglets. The 700's and 800's do. They now come installed right from Boeing. You probably saw a 600.
Oops, someone answered just as I did.

Thanks for the info.
It's the first time i had ever seen a wesjet aircraft without winglets, i figured they had all been retro-fitted with them.

Some short haul, high density 747's don;t have them.
More commonly though is if one winglet has been damaged you can remove both and continue to operate.

Re: No Winglets?
JAL has some 747-400s without winglets used only for short haul domestic flying. It boils down to the weight penalty versus the savings in fuel burn. You must fly a 747 for a certain distance in order to realise the fuel savings created from the reduced drag provided by the winglets. This is due to the extra weight of the winglets."Ever seen a B747-400 without winglets?? Wonder why??"

They are also short haul 747s with regards to their fuel capacity. Only operators such as Logistic Air, run by an extreme loser of Iranian descent would bother to try to make a go out of this airplane.
