Two questions for Davep
1. If someone for any reason can not take the Wednesday tour that is been offered ( I know its not mandatory), does this mean they are disqualified from the pool of applicants?
2. Are you still calling for interviews and how long does it take to wait for a phone call from the first time someone submitted an applications if they meet the requirements.
Thank you in advance

Re: Two questions for Davep
I can't speak for DaveP but I will tell you that the tour on wednesday's is often misunderstood.
1)About the tour- The tour is really about YOU learning about the company, the facilities and the people. The tour is almost always conducted by someone you know at WJ that can show you around. Are you a right fit for WJ and vice versa. There might be an off chance you do the tour and realize this is not for you.
2)Why Wednesday- Normally interviews are done on Wednesdays but lately it's even been done on other days. The idea was that if you could come out on a wednesday, than you might have a chance to meet people on the hiring team. With that said, it is not always possible.
Don't do the tour only because you want to meet DaveP and get a phone call. Do the tour because you want to learn more about WJ. The more you understand it the better it will prepare you for the interview.
On a personal note: I've been at WJ just over 2 years. I did a tour with one of my recommends....unfortunately, that day I didn't meet people that might do the hiring, but that did not prevent me from getting the call.

Re: Two questions for Davep
I never did the tour. I attempted to but was told Dave was on vacation at the time. Been here just under 2 years now and I'm loving everyday of it! Couldn't agree more though the tour should be about you.

Re: Two questions for Davep
To the best of my knowledge, we're actively interviewing & hiring... I heard a new class every 3 weeks, for most of the year.
Best of luck!
Best of luck!
I want to die like my grandfather did, peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming in terror like his passengers...
Re: Two questions for Davep
Thanks for your input guys.
I guess I should aim for that Wednesday tour.
I have another question for you though, and here it goes.
In your opinion what do you think my chances are with 4000TT, 2500 MULTI, 2300 704 OPS which 1200 TURBINE-PIC.
Your feedback would be appreciated
Thanks in advance

Re: Two questions for Davep
Thanks fellas,
That's all correct and accurate info.
As for getting called who knows when. Things like internal references and your background are key. It isn't always just about hours. Think of what you did through your career. Education, personal qualities (such as volunteer work) etc all come into play. Recent class averages (5000 - 8000 hrs) have been high, but that's reflecting the slowdown.
It becomes a daunting task to select resumes when you are dealing with 3000 resumes and of that, about 1000 have internal sponsorship. We generally only select about 10 every 2 weeks.
Interviews are continuing weekly and there is no end in sight for the remainder of this year. It's purely a numbers game for how long one may wait.
What else do we look for? Someone with a good personality and a good work ethic. We all pull the line together here.
Hope that helps.
Dave.

I must say that I haven't seen anyone from the hiring department, of any airline, that is so prompt and approachable as you are, and that also speaks volumes about the company as well.
Thank you
Thank you

Davep: At 10 selected every 2 weeks that means approx. 240 pilot interviews this year? Can I ask what WJA's goal is this year in terms of hiring? Also what is it with the Wednesday tours...is it something that is recommended by WJA after being called? Thanks for your input.

Re: Two questions for Davep
I would expect that more candidates are interviewed than hired. If you've been reading this thread and others- you will see that we have an abundance of resumes. 240 pilots interviewed does not mean 240 vacancies. Some numbers we've heard -but it's always changing is anywehre from 110-120 this year and more- next year. Again this number can and does often change.100_above wrote:Davep: At 10 selected every 2 weeks that means approx. 240 pilot interviews this year? The "tour" is nothing from WJA. Rather it's an opportunity for one of your recommends to take you on a tour to show you what we're about. Are we a good fit for you, vice versa- (read the prior posts)

Re: Two questions for Davep
I have been visiting the AvCanada site for several years now as our son was climbing his way up the aviation ladder. I had a long and successful career myself and now our son is also well on his way @ PWA 5.0.
I would like to take this opportunity, finally to thank Davep for his candid ,informative posts he makes to all the inquires made concerning the internal hiring processes at WestJet. His insightful responses are very indicative of the very positive work environment that is so prevalent from the WestJet training and check pilot ranks.

Thanks!
I think it's great to have transparency. I always wondered how they did things when I was working my way up too.
What frustrated me was never getting past the front desk or the receptionist on the phone. That won't happen here.
Dave.

Question for Davep
Hi Dave,
I am a furloughed United pilot and have had my app in with WestJet since November, I am wondering if being a furloughed pilot would hurt my chances of getting an interview? Also, I am wondering if you welcome walk-ins as I am thinking of flying out to Calgary from Toronto to walk my resume in, but I don't want to do so if you discourage this.
Thanks

Re: Question for Davep
I've only seen the headlines and not read the small print yet, but I'm assuming more furloughs will be coming with today's announcement.... Best of luck.aviatrx wrote:Hi Dave,

Re: Two questions for Davep
Hi Dave
Just wondering what one can expect time wise after they submit a resume?
Is it a long wait to hear from your recruitment team as to whether you will be considered for a telephone interview?
Thank you for your time.

Re: Two questions for Davep
As Dave mentioned above, it can take awhile and there is no set timeline.
