If it's on pay alone, nothing touches a A-scale Cathay Pacific widebody captain with Vancouver base. Next up would be an AC 777 skipper.

Now you caught my interest. How much are we talking here... in CND $$sepia wrote:If it's on pay alone, nothing touches a A-scale Cathay Pacific widebody captain with Vancouver base. Next up would be an AC 777 skipper.
Give me a mile of highway and I'll show you a mile; give me a mile of runway, and I'll show you the world!

Wait...CX A-Scaler still exist? I thought they are all in retirement already. If I recall correctly, those gents are/were earning at least 200K USD per year?

Québec City: YQB gov. CL-415. And Dash200/Challenger air ambulance. Know it's not W but has to be mentionned.
The Best safety device in any aircarft is a well-paid crew.

Any air ambulance/medi piloting job would be best, no? Why bother with route planning. The flight plan goes like this: Point of departure direct destination. Could probably knock off a few weeks ground school...
Turn right/left heading XXX, vectors for the hell of it.

you understood everything

FWIW - this is the way of how the system is going. Direct routings are becoming more and more common - and it has nothing to do with your mission, more of your equipment type. I have taken off out of Portage and Winnipeg Centre has asked me if I would like to go direct Kingston airport - over 900 nm away. In the States, the idea of airways is fading - to be replaced with direct to destination.cyeg66 wrote:Why bother with route planning.
Back to the original post. The best (and only) pilot gig in Portage/Southport is the civi-instructors at AW and they make pretty decent salary as Class 3 instructors.

Not sure about the A scale 777 guy, but i think it's easily over 300k CAD.
Air Canada 777 would be somewhere in the ball park of 220-230k.

Thanks. I would have thought around a quarter million for AC skippers anyway but I wasn't sure.sepia wrote:IBPilot wrote:Now you caught my interest. If you think about it, that's quite a bit of green for watching the autopilot on an 8 hour flight to LHR but that is what makes a 777 pilot so appealing...

How's their (P.Q.) pension plan doing these days? I heard it took a pretty good shellacking when stocks plunged

What is the point about talking Cathay A scale other than bragging rights? Nobody is going to get it ever again...
Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?

Kind of a loaded question. Not everyone defines their "best" pilot job the same way. What are the best pilot jobs by city (Western Can)? ie Vancouver, Edomonton, Calgary, Saskatoon. Include them all; reg full time, rotational, executive, airline, international. Don't forget to rank PAY.

I think that the RCMP Air Services would take the cake. They are in most major cities. 100k+ a year, mon-fri, pension. No sexy airplanes tho, guess it depends what you want

Except for the pay check and the fact that you must keep profeciency on two types, it is the best you can get. You sleep in you bed avery 24h for sure and you fly decent planes.Caracrane wrote:Québec City: YQB gov. CL-415. And Dash200/Challenger air ambulance. Know it's not W but has to be mentionned.
