Maybe you should send the offer to a tallent agency instead and address it as "Ice Pilots is looking for a new reality STAR!!!" That might get some hits. :smt040

You know, if there was some mathematical certainty to getting into a driver's seat, I might in some wacky alternate universe actually consider being a rampie. But all it is is a source of cheap motivated labor for Joe with 'results not typical' drivers providing a source of inspiration.

Tell anybody (and I mean anybody) without a pilot's license to do that type of work with that schedule and wage and this would probably be the result. :smt014 :butthead: :finga:

Although this job should make for some interesting entertainment... Image

Sounds like a decent offer to me. The ramp sucks, but not as bad as waiting tables, wishing you were around airplanes. Without going into all the philosophy and politics of working for peanuts and taking some abuse here and there, I would hop on this offer if I were a newbie.
Stay in the game!

To put things in perspective:

I get paid about equivalent to a brand new captain on the DC-3/C-46-ish. They make just a little bit more per month. (I fly a small single in the bush, West of BC)

But with my time I'd probably put on the ramp at buffalo.

Quote from Ice Pilots NWT (Transatlantic crossing episode):
"Flight attending is sort of an intermediate step between rampie and pilot"

IMHO, "rampie" was an intermediate step for me to pay my way through flight school, "flight attendant" was an intermediate step for my ex-girl to lay on a "real" pilot.

Its still just simple math... there are way more people out there in Canada with Pilot licenses than seats up front....

TV show or not

Like Krash said...It's simple math. There aren't enough flying jobs right now. Yes it is a shitty job and no I don't think it's right for companies like Buffalo (and many other) to take advantage of low time pilots but it's one way to get into the industry.

Thanks but I already have a job. Just curious, haven't been in yellowknife since 1980 and was wondering if Buffalo is still running into Fort Smith? Good luck with the rampie.

Joe counters your offer with a cardboard box in the corner of the hanger, cereal every other day and a swift kick to the head if you mention anything about being a pilot to anyone while working...

If the schedule is anything like it was portrayed on Ice Pilots, when do you have time to look for anything better? When you are unemployed you have more time to look for work, and maybe even a bit of EI to help along.

Nark, you hit the nail on the head. :smt023 There are jobs out there that get you flying as PIC of an aircraft from day one that pay decently and don't involve being a ramp rat or flight attendant...
