Question about flying in (South) Africa.
Commercially, that is.
I'm trying to compile some information about getting a South African accreditation for my Canadian CPL. I've found some info on foreign PPL, but no commercial.
Has anyone here flown in Africa or South Africa specifically? Any insight/links/anecdotes would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Do you have the right to work in S.A.? without that, it's pretty tough to get a gig as a Canadian flying in S.A. However, in other parts of Africa there are many Canadians working for local companies, as well as for Canadian companies doing work in Africa. I don't know specifics, but I do not think it's a rubber stamp to get a S.A. CPL. Probably involves writing an exam or 2, and probably a practical test.
As a start, you might want to contact the South African Civil Aviation Authority. http://www.caa.co.za/
Go to Licensing & Examinations on the left column.
Then click on Licensing Info
Then click on "Click Here to go to AIC page"
Find AIC 30-7 and download that. It has all the info you require.
I was bored, so I did the work for ya!
cheers

Re: Question about flying in (South) Africa.
Now this is from the peanut gallery so please bear that in mind....
I recall a discussion once about a SA CPL, and was told it was about as involved (exam wise) as a Euro ATPL, IE a stack of books desk height... However as stated, this is from the peanut gallery...
however I too would love some info on African flying in general; IE wheres a good place to start and to look... Ill assume no one is going to higher you site unseen, but blasting off for a road trip around Uganda, etc is a bit more involved then a road trip to Yellowknife.

there's a good thread on pprune. it's done as a kind of journal of a guy who went to Africa looking for a flying job. it's very thorough and interesting, and i still haven't found the time to read the whole thing.

Re: Question about flying in (South) Africa.
I have personal experience with this one. As far as flying commercially, good luck. If you don't have South African citizenship forget it.
I managed to get a South African Validation on my License to fly ZS registered aircraft out of West Africa. But they put a limitation on the
validation that says "Outside SA borders only". The times are slow and their only hiring Local pilots.
