I was just wondering if Porter is actively hiring captains. I recently applied for a captain position and am now wondering if it would be better to withdraw that application and re-apply for an f/o position.

Any thoughts would be very welcome.

If you use the search function you will get a lot of info about Porter, be prepared for the interview.

From people who fly there: if you are qualified, they will offer you a captain's position. If they think you are not what they want at this time, then they will offer you an FO position.
They will not turn you away unless they don't like you at all.

And they seem to be in real need of qualified / experienced pilots, so maybe they will err on the side of giving you a chance at the left seat. You seem to have very good experience, don't worry too much.

They are starting to call again so I would hold, or at least apply again of you didnt hear in the last 3-4 months after applying.

Just apply. Don't worry about position as that is something you can talk about in the interview.

How easy is it for a Porter pilot to commute from YUL ???

Personally, I wouldn't put 'commute' and 'easy' together. This applies anywhere, not just Porter.

To answer your question, Porter has a flight every 20minutes between said cities, therefore it should relatively be safe to make your flight if you give yourself enough time. As someone who's commuted in previous lives, you can't make it stressfull, therefore, must give yourself plenty of time and options, hence, taking away from your time off. OR, live dangerously, maximise time off, and stress out and chance it everytime.

Porter's schedule is based on seniority, depending where you sit, commuting can be manageable, or impossible (if you have a reserve schedule for example).
