FAs Screwing Pilots
No No this isn't what you think! And I hope I am not out of line in posting this....
As an outsider I was just wondering if the non-unionized flight attendants possibly striking at the same time as the pilots in a me too action will adversely effect the potential outcome of the pilot contract negotiations?

Canadian Flight Attendants Union
About Us
The Canadian Flight Attendants Union represents nearly 1,000 flight attendants employed at Air Canada Jazz. The public knows us as the people who give the safety demonstrations and serve the drinks. What many people don’t realize is that flight attendants are trained to deal with any number of airborne situations and are a crucial part of passenger safety.
As a new union — just over a year old — we’ve been busy improving our own structure and services, and also with negotiating a new contract with Jazz. Our current contract expired June 30 [2009]. We’re hopeful of making some real progress at the bargaining table and resolving some of the big issues on wages and working conditions which our members face.

Re: FAs Screwing Pilots
please explain why you feel that the CFAU Strike Authorization ballot was a 'me too' event?
Re: FAs Screwing Pilots
The FA's are unionized and have every right to strike as we do. Management has been pulling the same dirty tricks with them as they have with us. Just so happens the strike deadlines are within a couple days of eachother.

As an outsider, perhaps it would have been wise to have done your home work, instead of coming on here and referring to the F/A's as non-unionized.TA/RA wrote:No No this isn't what you think! And I hope I am not out of line in posting this....

What CRJPurser said +1.
Re: FAs Screwing Pilots
I can assure you it's not a "me too" vote. They were voting at the same time as the pilots, and have there own contract issues to hash out. They were in the middle of contract talks and the company mid way through haulted the talks and told them to call a strike vote or take what was offered (which was not good). The masses spoke.

Re: FAs Screwing Pilots
I apologize I was acting on old information, as of not to long ago they were non-unionized. And I dont mean any disrespect but the timing just seems a bit too convenient. From an "outsider's" point of view it seems like they are riding on the momentum that was built by the pilots..... I too agree that fas deserve a fair contract but the timing is a bit precarious.

Re: FAs Screwing Pilots
All jazz contracts were renogotiated during AC's CCAA. All were 6 year contracts which expired in June 2009. There is no other reason than this for the timing of the F/A's strike vote.

TA/RA: Pretty much everything you have said in this thread is either wrong or show a complete lack of understanding of the situation.TA/RA wrote:I apologize I was acting on old information, as of not to long ago they were non-unionized. .
Jazz flight attendants have always been unionized.
Re: FAs Screwing Pilots
They have been unionized before Jazz was even created, they just changed their union a year or so ago (big mistake, but thats another topic).TA/RA wrote:as of not to long ago they were non-unionized.
