American school accreditation?

Post by Pete »

I am not an AME, but if you took an aircraft maintenance program in the states, would there be any accreditation for that if you went for your Canadian licenses?

Has anyone done this? I know there are many that have on the flying side...just wondering if it has been done.

In short, no. The school has to be accredited by Transport Canada for you to qualify for the time served. If you're a yank then you'd be better off getting your a and p first and then your canadian licence.

The answer to your question is not that simple. Have a look at Standard 566 and go to 566.07(2)(a,b,c)(Other basic training). In there you will see that even if TC does not "approve" of the training program you may take in the USA or anywhere else for that matter the training can still be assessed and if you meet the requirements ie. 1000 hrs classroom training for M and E and 550 hrs for S and provide a certificate of completion with the curriculum breakdown you will very likely be approved to write the technical and regulatory exam. The key to all of this is make sure you have your documentation.

Regards
