Turbo Commander

Post by Cancelgar »

I'm looking at my brand new AC69 Type Rating and I'm wondering if anyone knows why it requires a type rating in the first place.

It's a single pilot machine and it's not high performance because Vmo is 243 kias and Vso is 75 kias. Anyone know what the reason is?

Save me the trouble of looking it up and tell me, what's an AC69. I know what a 69 is, but not with AC in front of it.

Haha AC69 is a Turbo Commander. Fun machine, but not nearly as fun as the aforementioned mentioned 69.

I don't remember what Vne is on the 690, but isn't it generally 1.1*Vmo?
1.1*243 is 267 KIAS, so that would make it high performance.

I was trying to get which Commander it was, because of the number of seats. I think the answer may be similar to why you need a type rating for a King Air 100B, but not the 100A, which as far as I know, is only differentiated by Garrett's and is a bit quicker. But it can pack in 13 seats. So, one or the other or both?

The A100 has a Vso of 72, whereas the B100 has a Vso of 83. That puts the B100 into the high performance category.
