Purolator engine failure CYMX

Text only in french, Google translation below. From the picture shown, looks like a B727.
One might have feared the worst Thursday night at Mirabel airport north
Montreal.

According to Pierre Morel Police of the city of Mirabel, a cargo plane
Purolator company with three people on board had just taken off
when one of its engines broke down.

The pilot was ordered to dump some fuel before
going back for landing.

The incident caused no injuries, but it has caused alerting service
emergency. It was unclear what could cause this failure.

Not especially newsworthy, particularly when it's a three-holer. Besides, since when can 727's dump fuel....and the pilot was ordered do it? Lol. Pretty funny writeup.

You're right in the effect that really an engine shutdown in the 727 is a non event, it still warrants alerting services just in case. The 727 has always been able to dump fuel, with not too much of a delay either. If memory serves it was in the neighborhood of 2400lbs/min, and is usually required as the landing weight is only around 163,000lbs and can take off at 190,000lbs.

Regardless, kudos to the crew for a job well done and getting it back safely.

You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

I've got about 1,000 hours in a B-727. Dumped fuel twice.
"A" system failure just after the flaps were up and a duct overheat right after takeoff. Dumped fuel down to landing weight and landed at departure airport.
