A couple from Courtenay, B.C., is upset with Telus for putting a black mark on their credit rating for an old bill they said they didn't know about.

"It's a bill that I didn't know I had," said Travis Krisher, a pilot with Air Canada Jazz. "If I had a bill I would pay for it. My [good] credit score proves my history."

"All it would have taken is one phone call," said his wife, Bonnie, a debt arbitrator. "One phone call, and it would have been paid."

The $210 calling-card bill dates back to 2004. The Krishers said the first they heard of it was last year, after a collection agency reported the debt to Equifax, on behalf of Telus. As a result, Travis Krisher's credit beacon score dropped by more than 100 points — from 789 to 675. A perfect score is 900.

"When you have a lower beacon score it affects the amount a creditor will lend to you," said Bonnie. "When there's damage on a credit report it's on there for six years."

You can also go to the Credit Bureau, explain the situation, and they will remove it.

Should check your Credit Report occasionally to avoid this.

Crapy tire marked me for $1.90 a few years ago. It must have been some interest on a bill paid a little late.
Good thing I do not use cards anymore...

The low life, pond scum that Transport Canada sent all the many 55$ unpaid bills to, reported them all to the credit bureau. Got to really love the maggots at TC. Bill 55$ for doing literally NOTHING, go whining to a scum sucking, pond scum, shit sack collection agency, and screw up everybody's credit ratings. How are all these dumb fooks going to the borrow the money companies like Wasaya need to continue the bottom feeder training programs??

Actually, over the years I have become quite chummy with the company who handles TC's nonpayments. The company that takes care of it is actually just hired to make phone calls, it doesn't get sent to collection.

Although that's based on my experience, and I have only let one of those goddamn bills lapse for two years.

Right now i'm $165 in the hole and growing!

Oh yes they do. Looked it up, and there it was. Right on the old credit file. No defence. A bill for "no" services rendered. Typical Canadian Gov. just send us money.....because....Oh, I don't know....we just "want" it. We get nothing for it. No publication. No service. We just continue to allow them to get away with milking us. Why? Because we're Canadian. The World's largest Sheep Farm! Fook You!

Got sent to collections once when I was 16/17 (didn't even have credit to my knowledge). I had bought an electronic item from ebay. Months later, got a letter in the mail saying my file had been sent to their legal department.

All this for a UPS/Customs fee I was never told about. When I called to ask how I could pay, they said Visa/MC etc. Issue got dropped fast when I said I was 17 and didn't have a credit card. Guess it wasn't worth their $5.

You were a minor, a minor can't "sign" into a binding contract. It's not worth persuing legally because they would lose instantly.
