I feel better now. Thanks for allowing me to vent...

Mods, remove this at your convenience... Don't need to hear "Surrey Centre" cry...

With a stupid post like this, I wouldn't let you climb to 230 either. If anyone here is crying, it's you!! Suck it up. Don't like it? Drive!

I'm confused, how does one climb VFR to 230?

I encourage you to submit a complaint to NavCanada if you are unhappy with your routing. I am pretty sure I know of what you speak (even though your post is nearly nonsensical), but procedures aren't changed by whining on an internet forum.

Gotta remember departing CYYJ you have CYVR 40 miles east you have to not conflict with departing traffic or arriving traffic to CYVR so yeah you get sent all over gods green earth.

What a tosser. YYJ VOR is also part of the JAWBN1 arrival for KSEA - I am going to agree with the guy above me that this is why they route you all over hells half acre.

In this case I have some sympathy for ATC as east bound out of YYJ puts you right through all the YVR arrivals. Sooooo Suck it up buttercup.
I did however see one interesting appoach to this problem. A US F15 asked for and was granted clearance to join V495 overhead YYJ airport........at FL240 8)

I was coming out of YYJ about a month back GDC spit out a routing direct to BOOTH (wich is an Arrival point to YVR up by Hope) then a few points enroute to YEG .

I knew that could not be correct and couldn't find anything in the prefer route section of the CFS but one call to the ACC and they said they would vector us north then off to some point. I think NAVCanada should at least publish a prefered routing for YYJ-YEG. (maybe they have it somewhere but couldn't find it, nor could the FSS flight planning guy) But I tell you what on a clear day like it was, we could see all the way up island and out to the west coast and the setting sun with the mountains on the right I was hoping they where going to keep us site seeing for a wee bit longer, Sure beats looking at Airdrie .

We do this leg in a C441 countless times in the summer months. And yeah, the whole departure thing is frustrating. However, after attending the CBAA convention in Calgary last week, I do have a better appreciation of what Nav Can deals with every day. If the departure procedure needs to be how it is, while we may not like it, I have money that says they don't do it just to pi$$ you off.

So, I'll side with "Husky" here, take it up with Nav Canada themselves. (service@navcanada.ca)

Enough said, other than we all need to remember that "two aircraft cannot gracefully occupy the same airspace". So to that end, Nav Canada does good work. But how do they come up with some of these fix names? How are you supposed to pronounce "zjxuv" anyhow?? Must be a big Scrabble set or something... Lol!!

YVR is north, actually, but I digress.

I too, have had rather circuitous routings out of YYJ...one time going to YLW, they had us heading west as we climbed, almost getting out over the straight of juan de fuca before turning us back. they wouldn't do it to us if they didn't have to.

Last year, we did Victoria three times in one week. On the third trip, I thought I'd help ATC out with the routing, and filed Victoria - Tofino - Nanaimo - VIDRI. The routing will have greater meaning to guys and gals that fly on the West Coast. Needless to say, I just barely hit "submit" on the flight plan (online) when my cell phone rang. The lady on the other end identified herself as IFR Flight Planning, and proceeded to query me as to my routing of choice. "it's the closest thing to what I will really end up having to fly, I just thought I'd make things easier by planning this route in advance.". We had a good laugh, :smt014 she advised me to file the following ATC preferred route. CYYJ YYJ HUH YDC ELUNA.ELUNA Arrival CYEG. So I filed this, and you know what? I was closer with my route.

Regardless, this stuff does happen for a reason, we can accept it, or get all spooled up. I now prefer to sit back with a nice glass of wine, I mean cup of coffee, and enjoy the view doing the best job on earth!!
