More jobs, Pilots or Maintenance???
Is there more jobs for a pilot than in maintenance, I know that at first the money is total garbage unless you go through college piloting courses that speed your way up the ladder, i've heard those courses are deadly! But jesus christ, i have 6 years of experience in M2 maintenance and i would have 8 if wouldn't keep on getting laid off!! I tell you something guys, i love being an aircraft mechanic but i sure hell hate the instability! I know being a pilot at first can be just as unstable, but i dunno about you guys, seems like theres a lot more openings for pilots every week.... I've been laid off for 7 months and haven't seen a single bloody opening in quebec... i think i must of sent out at least 50 resumes by now... I'm LOOSING IT
lol kidding, but yeah its definitely not booming like 4 years ago... I've always wanted to be a pilot, and seems like where ever yo u go, all the nice cars at the hanger, "oh yeah thats a pilot's car" if you know what i mean LOL! i dunno just kinda sick of this instability, and the moving around and flying around wouldn't bother me, plus gives me a little time away from the wife LOL hope she doesn't read this
anyways, so whats the verdict?

Re: More jobs, Pilots or Maintenance???
Sorry to say but your going to have to move to where the work is. Best bet is to find a gig with rotations until something does come along closer to home. The Pilots ( from reading here) seem to have it a little worse off then us. I read some of their stories and empathize to the point it makes my job not look so bad after all.
How can you tell which one is the pilot when you walk into a bar?....Don't worry he will come up and tell you.

Re: More jobs, Pilots or Maintenance???
Definitely better off being an AME.
There are far more 'rich' mechanics than 'rich' pilots. Sure, after ten years a career pilot might reach parity with an AME--and possibly even surpass him--but it is a long haul and a long shot at best.
Entry level pilot wages are about half what a licensed AME gets and many jobs are seasonal, remote, and/or with seedy operators. This is, of course, if you can find a job and beat out the hundred or so other applicants...

Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?

If you are considering doing tours as a pilot in remote locations, why dont you just go on a rotation up north? I know a guy who lives in new-brunswick and went on tours with Northright and Air Inuit, never heard him complain about lack of jobs.

...to me is a bunch of BS. I know pilots who drive 15+ year old busted to shit cars and could never afford a new car, let alone a recent one. And I've met mechanics who were the only ones with the nice cars in the hangar parking lot.all the nice cars at the hanger, "oh yeah thats a pilot's car" if you know what i mean LOL!
