I tried. I wanted to get this for my ancient Mother who has been screwed by Shaw for years. They are charging her for basic fuzzy, staticky cable at the same price they are selling digital service. Thievery.

I went through the website and compared to the other offerings. Website proved it was "available in my area." Talked to the nice lady on the phone, discussed the options, chose a 3-year "contract" (I agree to pay and pay, penalties to disconnect; they can change whatever they want whenever they want) booked an installation date, 45 minutes later she says "I'll just put you on hold, stand by."
10 minutes later (I can hum the Telus elevator music, want to hear it?) she comes back on and she says "I'm awfully sorry but there are no ports available."

Me: "What does that mean?"
Her: "It means we have no ports available and I can't give you the service."
Me: "So let me get this straight. I just wasted about 2 hours of my life on your website, talking to you, agreeing to terms, answering all your questions about my identity and you can't give me the product?"
Her: "Yes. Or No."
Me: (incredulous) "When exactly can I have this new TV service?"
Her: "I don't know. Somebody has to stop the service so there will be a port available."

Long pause.

Me: "How many client sign up for the 3-year service?"
Her: "Virtually all of them."
Me: "So I am likely waiting for somebody to die or sell their house?"
Her: "Yes, unless they pass the service with the house."
Me: "Click."

Telus is beyond belief. Good luck.

Is Cogeco available in your area? They just dropped the HD charge on our monthly bill, not often you see that. :)

i agree cogeco rocks...
as for telus.... well i got so fed up with shaw being incompetent i tried to switch to telus. i called em march 13th, they said that the modem would be sent by mail to my place and should be there in a few days. and the tech would be out to hook up the line by the end of the next week. two weeks later no modem, phone line still not connected. when i call them i am told that there are no records of me ever calling... so i say well forget it then.
a month later i get a bill in the mail for the first months service. phone em and explain the story. the person on the other end of the line says "so you want to cancel then?" no canceling would be the case if i had actually got any service. i was assured that the account was closed and the charges were reversed.
this has been going back and forth for 5 months now. i just recieved my latest bill from them for 29 cents. i was thinking of sending them the balance in pennies in thier crummy envelope, instead i am sending them a bill for my wasted time.
