Applying online for pilot position

Post by CD1 »

Hey

I've been applying to WJ for ages now as I work my way up the ranks. What additional documents do you upload onto the site other than your resume and cover letter? Would you scan your license and passport? I've only been updating the resume but am wondering what else I should throw up there. Any info is appreciated (especially from Dave)

Thanks

I've copy pasted into the appropriate boxes but there is also upload section. A resume and cover letter are obvious but I'm wondering what else would be beneficial to upload. PPC's, First Aid Cert, etc. or do they just ask you to bring those to the interview.

Thanks

Which website have you been applying to?

I noticed on Workopolis that there are currently no pilot jobs advertised. I have also applied through the WestJet great jobs portion of their website however on the title page it says that pilots should apply on Workopolis. That being said you can search pilot jobs on the WestJet website and also apply for them.

I'm confused about how to apply. Any advice?

Thanks !

http://www.cytiva.com/wstjet/ext/Detail ... etP2009-05

start with http://www.westjet.com then "about us" then "great jobs" then "pilot jobs" then in the "search type pilot" then there is the page to apply.

As for what to attach, I think the primary thing is a good concise resume with a solid breakdown of times types and history including references. A basic cover letter will do the trick. All other certificates/transcripts and such can be put into a portfolio on interview day however some mention of them on the resume won't hurt.

Hope that helps.

We are just filling the last course for 2010 (Oct) and the preliminary ground school numbers will be made available very shortly as the budgets are close to completion for 2011.

Take care,

Dave.

Yes, we will continue hiring.
As for the final numbers we aren't sure yet due to budgets etc.
The interviewing hasn't stopped. We will ramp up to weekly come November.
cheers,

Dave.

When I first applied to the pilot position last year, I remember answering a bunch of questions about flight times, and type of experience, etc. Now when I log in to update my application, I can change certain items on my profile, upload new documents, etc, but I can't update the information from when I first applied.

Suggestions?
Thanks!

Hi,
Simply keep the resume portion updated.
Those bullet questions simply give you a bench mark matrix score. We can monitor your progress from there on the resume updates. There has been plenty of information in past threads regarding how the matrix scores.

Cheers.

I have a friend (it's not me...honest) who was put into the hiring pool this summer but was never called for a class date, I am curious what happens to him now? Does he have to re-interview? I would ask but I feel like I would be rubbing salt in the wound so to speak.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

All courses are done for 2010 and the 2011 courses are starting late Jan/early Feb.
If they are in the pool, they won't be seeing anything until the new year.
He or she should know that because I have been in contact with all personally and given them that information. Status reports will be provided regularly.

Total numbers still aren't known for 2011 but we have put a certain number into the budget, but that wouldn't be prudent to post. Interviews are continuing.

Cheers.

Would it be a good idea to electronically upload "internal reference" letters from several wj pilots willing to vouch for me? Is this on or does a hangar tour cover this?

Hi,
Generally your internal references will submit their own reference letter via our internal website. It then goes into a separate data base where we can view these letters. So, no the tour doesn't cover that and uploading them is only duplicating the process.

Cheers,
Dave.

Davep your input is really helpful. Thank you. Of the people who are lucky enough to get an interview, would you know what percentage of those interviewed will be hired? I can imagine you'd have the pick of the litter.

Dave,

I'm just curious if the rumors are true, that in order to have a chance at WJ, you need an internal reference(s)?? For my sake, I hope this is not the case...........

Thanks for taking the the time to answer everyone's questions, really does help when, there's a truthful insider, and not just speculation. Take care.

Hi Dave,

Question regarding file attachment section of the online application. Will uploading a new resume with the same file name just over-write an existing older one? Or do the old files stay on the system ?

Thanks!

In my ground school, I think the average number of internal recommends was 7 per pilot. However, I got hired without an internal recommend.

Thanks Bede,

Wondering if you'd mind sharing what sort of time you had, and how long it took you to get a call. Also, if you had some sort of strategy of getting noticed without being in the recommended pile.

Thanks, and congratulations!!!!!

Hey,

I did come from Jazz, about 7000 hrs when I was hired. However, from what I have heard, after a certain number of hours, more hours don't count much.

I do have a bit more education than most pilots, but I'm not sure how much that helped. I guess I just got lucky and my resume ended up at the top of the pile.

If you look at the application page, WJ asks for certain things. I'm sure all of those count. Things like second language, education (we had a few AME's in our class), EFIS, 705 time.

In my GS everyone came off jets except a -8 FO from Jazz. All were 705 jets, but a couple were corporate Lear's.
