Emirates & Etihad
It was a big controversy earlier this year but everything seems to have died down. Does anyone have any insight on Emirates & Etihad getting expanded flights? Rumor had it a long time ago that they were going to be allowed to expand to 10 flights a week to YYZ by the end of the year but haven't heard anything lately.

Re: Emirates & Etihad
I was just at the management briefing that we get at our recurrent groundschool and they told us they now require 1000 pilots in the next 20 months.
I am flying with guys who are assigned ground duties because they are time ex, which brings up the point that after doing the maximum flying hours or on medical leave, they still want you doing something in the office.

Iwouldnt expect anything with he slots to soon. It was just on the globe that the Harper gov met with the UE in paris in September to go over just this. The ue gave an choice, either give us ALL the slots we won't or get your military out of r base.
Nicely we said see ya, now we have 30 days to vacate the base, so we are movin or troops to somewhere else but I can't remember the name.
Was in Fridays globe, so with them trying to pull this I don't think you'll see them here more anytime soon.

We should kick these assholes out of YYZ and ban them from Canadian airspace. Good luck trying to get from DXB-SFO or LAX without crossing Canadian airspace.flyinhigh wrote:

I think this is what you are referring to:
I can't recommend the Middle East or Emirates, a company that's basically a common bully, with greed thrown in...but as far as J-O-B's go, there should be lots to come as EK keeps piling on the fleet...they literally can't recruit fast enough. They're behind the power curve now, need more people even as the job market is slowly rebounding. Most guys I know just want the bare minimum to qualify for contract work elsewhere and then out. Hopefully that will put a crimp in their plans for global domination. Amazing what you can accomplish when you base your company in a despotic regime...
I hope the Canadian government tells them to go pound sand. (yeah yeah I know...)OTTAWA — Canadian military officials are considering pulling forces out of a military base near Dubai, CTV News reported Wednesday.
The base is used for moving troops and supplies to and from Afghanistan, and is central to Canada’s main military mission.
CTV reported that Canada is under pressure from the United Arab Emirates to allow the country’s two commercial airlines to fly direct to Calgary and Vancouver.
Transport Canada and Air Canada oppose the proposal by Emirates Airline and Etihad Airways, CTV said.
The Canadian government told UAE officials that it would rather pull out of the base then give in to blackmail, CTV reported, citing senior officials.
Possible replacements for the Dubai base include Pakistan and Cyprus.

Emirates’ 12th Airbus A380 joined the fleet on 13th August 2010, taking the fleet count to an impressive 150 – a mix of 143 wide-bodied Airbus and Boeing passenger aircraft and seven freighters. There are 203 more aircraft on order including 78 A380s.

Emirates, the biggest Arab airline, forecast profit this year will exceed last year’s level, Chief Executive Officer Tim Clark said in Berlin on Monday. Net income in the 12 months ended March 31 reached $964 million.
“We’re bigger than that this year,” Clark told reporters at the annual meeting of the International Air Transport Association. “We’re well ahead already. Unless something goes wrong, there won’t be a problem.”
