I've done two geocaches - the first one led me to an epic adventure on my second* (both with a borrowed Garmin Etrex Legend) which netted me and my fellow cacher $250 each - which, in turn, financed the purchase of said GPS. Then, caching began to get boring - follow the little arrow to a small box of plastic trinkets  so I went onto confluencing: http://www.confluence.org and had lots of fun. Then, I went onto Orienteering, which had the same challenges, but used a map, compass and brain, rather than an electric gizmo to do the navigation. Much more fun. And there, I've stayed..

* For details and pics/write up, look up "X-TREME GPS TEAM CACHE #20" on the Geocaching site, scroll down to January 2004, and look for the Night Hawk2 writeup and pics...

Hey North Shore, I'd never heard of Confluencing before and just checked out that site.. AWESOME!

We always went prospecting as an excuse to get off the beaten path, but its a lot of work, I like this confluencing business.

Thanks for that!

Yah, the confluencing is fun - only problem is, most of the 'easy' ones are done now. I've done a few in Manitoba, and the only ones that are left now are only accessible by floatplane, helicopter or (in the winter) by snow machine.. Same in BC - they're mostly *really* difficult to get to..

HAve fun, tho..

That DOES look pretty cool. And it's informative too!

I never knew Native Americans lived in Ontario. I thought they were Indians or Natives or Native Canadians or something.
Two days later we drove to Archie's home, an Native American, to inquire if I could hire him to take me to the end of the road.
Oh well, maybe it was some Seminole dude up here from Florida for the summer.

I just started geocaching about 10 days ago. So far I love it. There are about 400 caches within 15 miles of my house, quite a few out on the trails nearby. I am attending a local geocachers meet and greet next Saturday...should be a lot of fun. I bought a Garmin Dakota 20 specifically for caching with. I can download caches and descritions directly into the GPS. I bought a Canada topo map as well to augment the worldwide basemap included in the database.
