Ornge moving YTZ ops to YHM
Looks like the rumoured big Ornge base in YHM is a go. Seems like Ornge will be closing its Toronto Island Airport operation and opening up a big "Transport Medical Centre of Excellence" in Hamilton similar to the one they recently opened in Thunder Bay. If anything, this should mean a southern base for fixed wing operations to complement the existing northern bases.

I wonder what's next for Ornge?

Re: Ornge moving YTZ ops to YHM
Ontario is running a huge deficit. The UK government just cut all its quango funding to reduce its deficit.
What they do in the UK usually is copied in the Colonies as very few are capable of original thought outside of Europe .So my wild ass guess would be you can expect many quangos to go the way of the dodo after the next election. Not just Orange,E-health and all those six figure management types will be shooed away from the public trough.

Re: Ornge moving YTZ ops to YHM
The CAW has something to say about this - namely that moving their ops to YHM will negatively affect the service that Ornge provides for critical care transport for the Toronto area.

Moving ops to YHZ would definitely be detrimental to the entire Ontario operation.ng78 wrote:The CAW has something to say about this - namely that moving their ops to YHZ will negatively affect the service that Ornge provides for critical care transport for the Toronto area.

According to the CAW: "Approximately 71 per cent of the flights out of Toronto Island airport are to locations north and east of Toronto."ng78 wrote:The CAW has something to say about this - namely that moving their ops to YHZ will negatively affect the service that Ornge provides for critical care transport for the Toronto area.

So... they should re-locate to Lindsay instead?

It wouldn't be a surprise if they don't have jets in the next few years.

The words excellence and Ornge don't belong in the same sentance>
Biggest waste of money to the Ontario tax payer since we used to pay Bob Rae.

Re: Ornge moving YTZ ops to YHM
A lot of people have this opinion. Ornge claims that they are streamlining medevac flying and make it more efficient. Yes, Ornge seems to have a lot of management, and the employees (God forbid) are actually making decent coin. But do those of you who claim Ornge is a waste of money have any proof that the way they are operating is more expensive than before? Or is it that medevac flying itself is a waste of money? Just curious.quickflight wrote:The words excellence and Ornge don't belong in the same sentance>

Re: Ornge moving YTZ ops to YHM
I don't know a lot about it but it seems to me that MEDEVAC should be just that, urgent medical transport. If its patient transfers, charter the local guy and only if ground transport isn't possible. If its an emergency fly the equipped and dedicated birds. MEDEVAC is misused, in operation and name, and should not be a taxi service, for either 'patients' or medics.
There is a LOT more to this Province than Toronto (despite what they may think), so yes, if it works for function and cost - move.

Re: Ornge moving YTZ ops to YHM
Perhaps someone should point out to Lewenza and **** that those orange Ornge helicopters they've all seen flying overhead don't just pick up patients and bring them back to the hangar where they are based at and also, as far as I can tell, Toronto Island (airport or otherwise) doesn't have a hospital on it...
...and just in case some aren't getting the point, a possible scenario; a collision on the 403 at Hurontario resulting in a ground ambulance ride to YHM (hopefully they open the HOV lane on the QEW!), then a helicopter ride back to YTZ followed by a ferry ride (in an ambulance) back to the mainland and further ambulance ride to, say, PMH is not exactly how it works...

Re: Ornge moving YTZ ops to YHM
Inefficiencies or not, to make a claim that Ornge is wasting taxpayers money is a stretch. Look at CAS. Have you seen the CAS building in Oshawa/yyz/yxu/yqg? It’s ridiculous, and yet there are still kids staying in clapped out buildings in town, yet the workers work in brand new buildings all over the province.quickflight wrote:The words excellence and Ornge don't belong in the same sentance>

So your statement is redundant in the fact that most government run anything is a waste of money. If you want a real jaw dropper read up on the wind mills all over southern Ontario and get back to me…..
Romance checklist complete.
