Grade: SGEU.10.

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Government Services, Air Ambulance Services, has an opportunity for a qualified Pilot located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Air Ambulance is a 24/7 emergency medical air evacuation to provincial and national destinations in compliance with Canadian Aviation Regulations (CAR's).

The successful candidate will be responsible to provide customer services by piloting several different aircraft and participating as a team member in delivering the highest level of service in an environment that stresses safety, security and comfort.

As the successful candidate you will have the following qualifications:
•A Valid Airline Transport Pilot License;
•A minimum of 3000 hours of flying time with at least 1500 as pilot-in-command of multi-engine aircraft;
•Extensive instrument flying including the use of GPS/FMS navigation equipment;
•Experience in northern domestic and high density airspace;
•Experience in King Air B200, or other multi-engine turbine powered aircraft; and
•Able to successfully pass an IRT/PPC on King Air B200.
Due to the nature of flight operations, it is not uncommon for pilots to have unusual work hours.

if I'm not mistaken you either need 3 days off in 17 or 36hours off every 7 days so the schedule seems fishy to me

The bit about one day off every 3 weeks is not referring to the schedule. This is a government job, it's referring to "earned days off". Look it up if you want to.

The schedule would be based on working roughly 37.33 hrs a week with normal days off just like every other typical 5 day a week job.

Seriously, use some common sense.

some government employees work 37.33 hrs a week, which means that get an extra day off every 3 weeks. this is in over and above their weekends. I believe this may be what it is referring to, how it works into a pilot schedule I dont know.

Actaully sounds like a pretty good job for the right person.

Based on the minimum hourly rate, the annual salary for this position looks like it would be at least 63k+

Actually it is a 703 operation so they could do 3 0ff in 30 days your quoting 704.
Don't worry I think it was posted because they have to, position will be filled internally. And yes you would get more than 1 day off every 3 weeks.

And, the way my math works: 37.33hrs (One week) x 52 weeks (one year) x $36.061 (hourly) =$70k plus benefits. Not a bad gig, IMHO, but then I'm biased a little...

Factor in the 2 a.m. call in the middle of a Saskatchewan Winter to go single pilot to La Loche into that pay scale though.....

That being said, I've heard it is a great gig for the right people and a brand new B200 to help you.

Yes it is government but it is run under 703.

Superb equipment, no scrimping on training money, no pressure to break regs, decent salary, good town with all the perks of civilization, doing a job where you are "working for the forces of good," and should be a job you could do til retirement if you go into it with the right attitude.

Like Fire Bombing, you'll spend a long time sitting, waiting for the phone to ring ... looking at the same old walls, dealing with your colleagues in close quarters with the same people .... for years, and years, and years.

One or two "verbal mis-steps" or practical jokes gone bad could cause ill-feelings that last an entire working career. The "ability to get along" would rank high on the Personal Suitability section of the job application.

Give it some serious consideration.

I don't understand why people are blaming pilots for low wages. If you want to fly and make the big bucks, make yourself qualified to do so. You don't see PEng's complaining that their employer didn't pay for their masters degree, so why do pilots complain that they don't get a PPC paid for?

Most pilots are complaining about paying for their schooling (private, commercial, instrument, multi). But then pay for a job after isn't right. But to get back on to the topic the job would be an excellent job for someone not wanting to go to the airlines. Full benefits and a pension. And like oldfogducker said great equipment.

Yes Turbo-Prop, I always wondered why if it was expected that you would pay for all licences and ratings, ....and be congratulated for being up-front and looking after your own affairs, not expecting daddy to ante up for flight training, ....why the line seems to be drawn at paying for a type rating.

I know of several who left the Canadian job scene, went to the US and paid for Type Rating training on Boeing products at various training outfits, and started working overseas almost immediately. One of them has a beautiful home overlooking the Mediterreanan, and more power to him for having the intestinal fortitude for taking the risk and having the self confidence to pay for training to increase his knowledge and professional qualifications twenty plus years ago.

edited ..... I should add those guys left Canada back in the day when CP and AC practised age discrimination and had an unofficial cut-off age of 29 for hiring. If you had turned 30, you may as well have turned 130 as far as they were concerned, and you were never going to make into the ranks of the big iron and fat wallets if you missed the hiring boom because of the date on your Birth Certificate.

Hi Widow ... re 'full time' employee ... fed employees & I'm pretty sure the SK Gov't. all work 37.5 hours/week & are certainly 'full time'--at least, I've never heard any complaints about their benefits.

Yup .... as described by Prairie Chicken ... 37 decimal something hours on an average, plus O/T plus typical benefits package (the Air Am pilots are often described as having big packages,) and a pension program. Slight downside is ... as a 24/7 operation, shift work is involved.
