Instructor renewal without lifting a finger?
(1) An applicant for renewal of a Flight Instructor Rating - Aeroplane or Helicopter shall have the rating provided that the applicant:
(amended 1999/03/01; previous version)
(c) in the previous 24 months, has acquired at least 300 hours of flight instructor experience and had, in this period, at least 80% of candidates recommended for the applicable flight tests pass on the first attempt. The renewal shall be based on no fewer than 5 flight tests.
Has anyone gone this route, this is the first i've actually seen this option (but at least i know how to look for it!), and if so, what do you do, just give TC a call and tell 'em to renew your rating?
I would just call TC and ask, but it's the weekend. Thanks

Re: Instructor renewal without lifting a finger?
I renewed the first time around using this clause. It was easy. You can't do it twice in a row, though. I think you just fill out the rating application form and send it in with the licensing fee and you're good to go! It's been a while...

I used it once to renew my Class 2 when I still had one, don't remember sending them any money though.

Same... I'm pretty sure there is a fee, but you can check the TC website or ask them directly to be sure.looproll wrote:I renewed the first time around using this clause. It was easy. Why not? CAR 421.66(2) specifically says you can:You can't do it twice in a row, though

PS If you haven't taken the flight instructor refresher course, I highly recommend it, regardless of how many hours/years you have been instructing. You will learn a lot.Where the applicant has renewed the instructor rating twice consecutively by means other than a flight test, the next renewal shall be through successful completion of a flight test for the appropriate flight instructor rating.
