\why drug dealers live withtheir mothers...\Freakonomics.
Freakonomics and their second book are interesting reading those that like to see causation/connection.
One of the chapters is a study of drug dealers in Chicago and why the majority of them still ive at home...It should be required reading for anyone considering going into aviaition as a career. The similarities are remarkable.

That chapter of that book taught me more about aviation than anything else. Those few pages should be required reading for ANYBODY thinking about a career in aviation.

I can't believe the politically correct crowd here isn't going wild and attacking the "abortion leads to less crime" hypothesis. There are some ugly conclusions that result.
Re: \why drug dealers live withtheir mothers...\Freakonomics
Freakonomics and Superfreakonomics are both riddled with errors and fallacies. Of course, both have a fair chunk of correct information too.
It's up to the reader to figure those out.

I agree both have errors in them....they are for entertainment as much as anything....but the model of the drug dealers in Chicago is , in my opinion, pretty much identical to the aviation career model...

Drug dealing is a big pyramid scheme. The guys at the top of the heap (Importers, wholesalers etc..) make lots of money. The street level dealers, conversely, once they have paid off their suppliers, and their security detail (in case someone wants to rob you of cash, drugs, or both) end up living on ~ $3.50/hr. Thus they live with their mothers, as they can't afford to live anywhere else.
Not sure I see the parallel with aviation, though... Most guys I know in aviation are doing alright - after 10 years in the trenches. It's the guys who get their licence, and then think that they're immediately going to get a job at $100k+, who are cruelly disappointed....IMHO

Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?
