Possible to do a Grp 1 Renewal on Sim in GTA?
I've been out of aviation for a few years now.
I am looking at renewing my Group 1 Instrument rating, it is just coming up on 2 years.
Are there any flight schools in the GTA (Preferrable CYKZ) that have the ability to do a group 1 renewal on a simulator (to keep costs down)?
Any info would be appreciated.

Try Airways, I don't see why they can't do it. I think Seneca does "outsiders" as well. You can probably expect to pay close to $1000 at either place, especially if you need review.
Re: Possible to do a Grp 1 Renewal on Sim in GTA?
Sim rides, although relatively cheap, tend to be MUCH harder rides than the equivalent in an aircraft. Due mostly to the fact that certain things thatcan only be simulated to be failed in an aircraft, and be failed for "real" in a sim. For example: a vacuum failure might be simulated in an aircraft by covering the AI and DG... it isn't hard to detect the failure since the examiner just covered up the instruments. The equivalent failure on a sim ride can be simulated the way it would actually occur - by failing the vacuum pump. Now you will have to detect the failure the regular way (monitoring vacuum pressure, or more likely by entering an unusual attitude because you followed the AI as it began to list into a false angle of bank. Most seasoned pilots that have had to do a sim ride will tell you how much harder they actually are.
Don't get me wrong; harder doesn't mean worse... it's really good training. Just make sure you're well prepared!

Seneca does it. Friend of mine just did it. Cost him 680 bucks including Paying for TC, Sim time for practicing, the ride and Examinar fees etc...
Although it might only be for alumni. Not sure. You can call and talk to Maureen at Seneca and she will give you the details 416-491-5050 x4250
Cheers

Seneca only does it for alumni, or then outsiders if you know a Seneca instructor who will help you out. Also try Diamond in London, Ontario with their Twin Star simulator.
