Re: take Home
Not to sure what it is for a new higher. But as a 4th year FO with are perdiems I am getting about 3700 a month take home now.
As a new higher you will get about 3000 I would imagine. I added the perdiems in as well, as there is no way unless you go out drinking every night that you will spend what we get.
I believe in another thread you got called for the sim/medical. Have you done it yet? This is a great place to work regardless of what you read here. Just like any other job, come to work, do your job, keep your head down and you'll love it. If you get caught up in the political going ons it'll drive ya nuts.
By your name I am guessing that you live in YWG, I do as well, commute to YYZ isn't as bad as some make it out. I've only got stuck twice in 2 years.

Re: take Home
I was hired Nov 15th. On Dec 10th I got just over $1700, it was a little higher because of some yearly allowances. On Dec 25th I got $917, and on Jan 10th I got $1666. The pay on the 10th is basically an advance of 40 hours of credit, so from what I can tell should always be about $1666, the 25th pay is an adjustment of the monthly total credit and deductions and may vary a little depending on the benefits you use and the monthly blocking average. If you do WDO (overtime) it would be extra above these numbers.
This doesn't include per diems. You do get per diems for training, but they are paid as if you are YYZ based until you complete your PPC. So if you are in YYZ and have a day with out training scheduled... no per diem. You should still get enough to cover your meals roughly as long as you don't drink too much beer.
This is my understanding of it so far anyhow. Hope this gives you an idea of what to expect.

Re: take Home
Just a small correction, pay on the 25th is for 40 hours (ie advance), pay on the 10th is for the remainder of the previous months credits. Example, YYZ blocking average is 82.5-40(advance) = 42.5 hours for the 10th pay. If you fly over the blocking average, this is also credited on the 10th pay. Meal $$ is to be deposited BY the 10th of the month, Is usually earlier.
Re: take Home
The Jan 10th pay also included $204 for your Shoe allowance. So your regular 10th of the month cheque will probably be around $1450 or so plus Per Diems. Working a block figure on about $900-1300 a month in Per Diems if you do multi day pairings.
Re: take Home
December I took home $5100 including perdiems and 2 days of overtime but usually it's a lot less. Had CPP payed off and I worked 18 days so I payed for it by hardly being home and always tired
5 years ago when I started I was taking home about $2500 a month

Re: take Home
Mmmmmm, that's funny because I am in a reduced block(mat as well be ei) and can't wait to go back full time.
On ei there is a max you can make every 2 weeks which is in the range of 780 cleared, I know this as I have been dealing with this for the last year for my wife who was on ei.
Now I am on the road right now but if you would like when I get home I would be happy to get references from service Canada.
Also yes you may be making more than that but if you are good luck come tax time.
So nice try on the trolling

Re: take Home
Considering that EI maxes out at just over 24000 a year I highly doubt it....beaverboy wrote:I'm making more on EI this winter than I did at Jazz

$1600 dollars first year pay? Yea I call BS on that one. $40 @ 82.5 credits - 40 credits = $1700. Somehow I highly doubt your deductions only account for $34. I'm guessing your only talking gross? I'd say first year take home would be around the $1100 for each pay cheque (give or take pending on month, excluding per diems)
Re: take Home
It because he has it backwards, the pay on the 25 is the advance, the pay on the 10th is the remainder of the previous month. What this person stated resembles my gross pay from year one.

Re: take Home
Yes, I got it the worng way around on the dates. The amounts are correct though, as i said before it does include some yearly allowances. I have no reason to make it up, but believe what you will.
Re: take Home

Re: take Home
Yes that is take home.
If you take off the allowances its looks like the 10th pay is going to be just over $1400 and the 25th pay is going to just over $900. Not including per diems.
I will be working overtime or a second job to pay the bills.... lets hope its worth it in the long run.

Re: take Home
That is if your $1100 (net) + per diem cheque doesn't cover your eating habits.
Re: take Home
Green onions,
It's worth it. I'm in my forth year (trust me it goes fast) and my take home is approximately $3000 with another $1000 in per diems....not too bad if you ask me. It's not a bad place to hang your hat and with the possibility of growth, justifies even more so.

Re: take Home
people like to say that... or the you knew before you came, dont complain now!
well I did a lot of research for a number of years before applying and taking the job here. and yes you get a general idea of what to expect, but never the whole picture. plus its different for everyone in thier current situation. this job and industry is always changing, what looks good today could be a lot different tomorrow.

Re: take Home
Loc, I myself appreciated knowing exactly what I was getting into before the interview. That way when they asked me if I knew what the pay was and if it was acceptable, the shock had already worn off at home, so I was able to just say yes. Can't imagine finding out during the interview and trying to figure out if I'll starve during the 1st couple years, while trying to focus on the task at hand. Also, I find it highly unlikely if you asked what the pay was, you'd get anything other than gross figures, I need reality, afterall I pay my bills with money in the bank, not what I could be making before the greedy politicians got thier cut.

Re: take Home
I hear what your saying .. but if they hop on http://www.airlinepilotpay.com and check the gross pay, you can check the revenue Canada website to see what tax bracket you fall under and do the math (the website has an online calculator btw). I guess you won't know the extra's that are deducted. (That LTD premium is a killer btw)

Re: take Home
Yeah except you're forgetting the fact that pilots are lazy. We don't want to have to go open up another window, type in "www.airlinepilotpay.com" then sear for Jazz, then open up another window for revenue canada, blah blah blah. It's just a heck of a lot easier if someone else can do the work for us and give us the infoLocalizer wrote:I hear what your saying .. but if they hop on http://www.airlinepilotpay.com and check the gross pay, you can check the revenue Canada website to see what tax bracket you fall under and do the math (the website has an online calculator btw).
