The Bid

Post by Flying Low »

Our latest bid is out and shows 104 pilot vacancies and 20 pilot reductions. Total of 84 openings. Should mean some more hiring!

Turns out you could have suggested looking in the memos and not the equipment bid section where one would have expected to find it.

So to everyone who reads this in the am. Cx your memos for the bid details.

Your welcome!

Yeah, but COMETer might not be too impressed. There's only about 10 RJ vacancies total

Any indication in the bid as to where the first Q400's will be based?

If there are 84 net vacancies then hiring will be well over 100 as attrition due to resignation is not included. Hiring continues at AC/WJ/AT/Cathay/Emirates so Jazz will have a nominal amount of pilots leaving each month.

That is true, really where going to short staffed all year. I thought we'd have to hire about 50-60, but around 80 damn that alot of guys.

Nice to see that there is 27 capt vacancies up to, its about time.

The Q-4's are going to start in yyz, to start they say we need 30 capts, 30 fo's on it.

Shouldn't the bid show 73 reductions on the 757 and 73 vacancies on the YYZ CRJ or is Jazz going to be flying the 57 year round now?

Those pilots are not 757, they are classified as " YYZ 757/CRJ."

They are all returning to the RJ, but there was no need to reduce any 'regular' yyz rj spots apparently.

Once the next Thomas Cook season returns, they go back. But they are still considered 757/CRJ when it comes to the standing bid tracker.

My husband is in the hiring pool, hoping to get a call for the GS soon... If he does get hired, we will take what comes in the matter of base assignment, but I was wondering, do most new hires start in TO, or is it a random selection? I've read that YUL is more of a senior base - is it impossible to start there? Thanks all for your posts in general - it makes me appear to be very "in the know"!

Good luck to your husband! This equipment bid shows vacancies primarily in Calgary and Toronto. Montreal is not senior, Vancouver and Calgary is. It's not impossible to get a YUL base. Base vacancies are an ongoing process, year round (due to attrition, pilot's bidding other bases, resigning, etc...). Hopefully your husband gets on Jazz, and once in, he can put up a standing bid for YUL. If/when a spot opens up and he's able to hold it, he'll get it.

Hope this helps!

P.S. Can I get my wife to e-mail you?

Of the 40 or so new hires from Sept - Nov 2010 there was 6-7 RJ spots in Calgary, the rest were all Dash 8 in either Calgary or Montreal. I believe some Dash new hires have been awarded Vancouver already, and more waiting for Vancouver. There is also a few new hire Dash guys in Montreal waiting for Toronto Base.

My guess would be that after the bid plays out the new hire spots will be much the same... mostly Dash 8 in Calgary and Montreal.
