Virgin America cancels Toronto service . . .
Jan 21/11, the airline also announces it will suspend service to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) effective April 6, 2011. The airline has decided to indefinitely suspend its YYZ service and instead immediately move capacity into other existing and more lucrative markets from the West Coast – including DFW.
“We would like to thank the Toronto airport and community for supporting us. We hope to return to YYZ at some point, but in the smaller Toronto-West Coast markets we were not able to stimulate demand as quickly as we would have liked. As a young and growing airline we’ve decided to instead focus on the immediate opportunities that DFW and other markets offer from our California base. DFW is one of the largest business and leisure travel markets from the West Coast, and with our unique brand of low fares and upscale service – we’ve been able to come in and capture that demand in short order,” added Walke.

Cough, cough, cough, bullsh!t, cough, cough, cough. We hope to return to YYZ at some point, but in the smaller Toronto-West Coast markets we were not able to stimulate demand as quickly as we would have liked.
Lifted from Wikipedia:
U.S. Census estimates released in 2008 indicated that there were 1,279,910 people living in Dallas proper.
Toronto's Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) whose land area (5,904 km² in 2006) and population (5,113,149 as of the 2006 census) Even Toronto proper has a population over 2.5 million, a much bigger market than Dallas.
The entire airline is bleeding money. Interesting decision to pull out of CYYZ and compete directly with LCC Southwest in the Dallas area.

They might have got more customers if they called themselves "Nasty firebreathing whore"and painted the airplanes bright red and put mustang ranch type club decor and seating in them.
Who wants a Virgin ,not much use really to a dirty old bastard.Give me an experienced fire breathing whore anyday or night for that matter

I'll never fly S&M Airlines again.
Re: Virgin America cancels Toronto service . . .
Maybe its due to the fact that YYZ is one of the most expensive airports in the world
to land at .The canadian user fees and insane taxes don't help either.

Dallas metropolitan area (Metroplex) is 7million. A little bigger than Toronto Metro.yycflyguy wrote:Cough, cough, cough, bullsh!t, cough, cough, cough. We hope to return to YYZ at some point, but in the smaller Toronto-West Coast markets we were not able to stimulate demand as quickly as we would have liked.

GTAA = Go To Another Airport.
When I retire, I’ll miss the clowns, not the circus.

May be they are afraid to compete with Emirates...
Success in life is when the cognac that you drink is older than the women you drink it with.
Re: Virgin America cancels Toronto service . . .
When did DFW move to the west coast??
Re: Virgin America cancels Toronto service . . .
West coast service out of LAX and SFO.
True datMaybe its due to the fact that YYZ is one of the most expensive airports in the world to land at .The canadian user fees and insane taxes don't help either.
My bad. I only accounted for Dallas/Ft Worth. They still are moving into AA and SW territory and they have a pretty strong hold on their markets.Dallas metropolitan area (Metroplex) is 7million. A little bigger than Toronto Metro.
