Wooden ribs with metal spars question
I am in the process of building a pair of wings for a VJ 22 Sportsman and currently halfway done with my set of wooden ribs.
The plan calls for spruce spars but I'd love to use metal instead if it was doable. I've been looking for the technique to attach these together but found nothing yet.
I've heard (but never seen one!) that some of the early Citabria's were using wood ribs/metal spars but don't have a clue of how they were held together, IF they ever existed, which I actually doubt.
Wag Aero offers a wing kit using metal spars and wood ribs but would the only way to find out be buying their kit? Does anyone in here has any info?

Flying an aircraft and building a guitar are two things that are easy to do bad and difficult to do right

Pie,
I'd bet you read the opposite, i.e. metal ribs to wood spars hue?
The only way I could find out would be seeing the Wag Aero way. I have my own plan but I'm not an engineer and want to stick with the proven stuff. I yet have to build another 10 ribs before I take a decision. Very likely to go with wooden spars the way its going.
Thanks for caring though!

Re: Wooden ribs with metal spars question
Thanks NormS;
I have read a lot on that site. The idea shown in it is not a proven, nor approved method. I know the guy and that's what he elected to do, requiring gluing aluminum and wood together, which I don't agree with.
There is certainly a better way to do it...
