Who's getting hired and who's getting PFO'd?
For those who got hired or PFO'd, what kind of experience/education/languages/references/etc do you have? I'm wondering if they're looking for a certain type of person this time around. Also, what were the timelines for interview, medical, and offer/PFO? Good luck to all.

We have no crystal jets at Air Canada and we don't like your sense of entitlement calling yourself "Wonder Woman". It is not what we look for in a candidate. Lasso of truth? Puhleeze. Nobody here is expected to tell the truth.

Actually from who i've seen get hired at Air Canada in the last few years, I think she would be a shoe in with that kind of sense of entitlment.yycflyguy wrote:We have no crystal jets at Air Canada and we don't like your sense of entitlement calling yourself "Wonder Woman". would be a shoe in, but too much TT...
I myself sit at 4500 plus, 2000+ 705 pic, college, bilingual, references, etc etc etc. No call, although sitting right seat in the 195 at 18+ days a month isnt my idea of a good time either though.

Guys, you're going to beat yourselves up trying to figure out the hiring process there. Don't take it personal! I know some great people that got on with decent time, and some major screwballs that would make you shake your head. I also know lots of great guys who got turned down with 1000's of hours and degrees etc.... All depends on whatever.....and if you got someone on the inside pulling for you!

I can't decide if you're being serious or not. If it's true you obviously are pretty fortunate to be hired by AC with those times, if you're joking it's not really extreme enough to be funny.scopiton wrote:grd school March 1st

Of course, there are several variants. Which one you receive is largely a function of how you present.TyrellCorp wrote:PFO = Please Fcuk Off![]()

JFO ... Just **** ***;
GFO ... Go **** ***;
HAIYJFO ... How about if you just **** ***;
WDYFO ... Why don't you **** ***? or
WDYJFO ... Why don't you just **** ***?
If you are over age 60, the expression is invariably condensed to only two letters, and it applies not only to prospective employees, but also to existing employees, and especially to the most experienced employees. And it has the union's blessing:
**** ***.
Surprise, aside from the specific instance of its application, none of this terminology is new. It's all a variant of the 1970's quip, Do you like sex? Do you like to travel?
Plus ça change, plus ça reste la même.
But just like a text messaging abbreviation, it is indeed a functional means of communicating what is essentially a similar thought, without crossing the line. See ya later, alligator.

Re: Who's getting hired and who's getting PFO'd?
I'll bite...although I think they take a real mix and agree nobody will figure it out.
Interview early November.
6000 Total
2800 Multi Turbine PIC
1800 over 12,500 on turbro prop
Lots of level D Sim time
Bachelors Degree
Business Owner...although this was only mentioned on the resume
First application 2005
Diverse aviation background in three countries
Was told I had a really good interview by an interviewer
Only one language
Don't think I have a problem with alcohol, drugs, family or genberally exhibit psychoctic behaviour (although no psycho does!)
Thought the cog test went really well
PFO 6 weeks.
I don't take it personally at all. they seem to be looking for a mix, such as a few Dash guys, a few military, a few corporate, a few bigger jets, a few tier 3 etc for each groundschool. They are hiring 60 ish this year? So I would be competing with several others in my "category" for one or two slots in potentially one or two groundschools. I think it's just luck of the draw for those that think they did well in the process. When you have 5 or 10 great candidates ...you just pick one.
I might reapply...but recognize that the finacial payoff of making the move would be 8 to 10 years ( I am speculating that there would still be 800 new hires over the next 8 years. Who knows what will happen really. We all have to compare to what you would make if you stay in your current position. If I add business income and lifestyle onto that it's a pretty tough sell for an industry that's getting worse for pilots by the year and a union that appears fragmented.
I do think a pension is worth something though.
Good luck

Zero. That is the weight that you should put on their pension, in your contemplation of employment. There are so many reasons to not expect to ever be able to realize anywhere close to what the exisiting top pension beneficiaries are receiving that you must discount it 100%.hopper wrote:I do think a pension is worth something though.
Defined benefit system: toast, before very long for the simple economic reason that it is not viable, given the market structure. Air Canada has almost the same number of pilots that it had 15 years ago, but it has absorbed the equivalent of six airlines. Even now it is trying to change the essence of the scope clause.
The de facto lack of growth of the mainline of the past decade is no accident and is not likely to change. Pension based upon best five years: five or six assumptions all of which must be satisfied, including employer viability and seniority progression, with a junior component financing the current liabilities? Not much hope. Unfunded liability, and a promise to pay, with little security for the majority of the plan. Bad news. International consolidation of airlines: not if, but when.
The short term loss in moving to this job is patently evident. The long term benefits and certainty of payback? Don't count on it.
From the posts here, it is very clear that the majority of pilots at this airline love their jobs, regardless of the difficulties. But they know better than anyone else that there is a job, and there is a career. Most expect a career, but eventually come to the realization that what they really obtain is a job.

Re: Who's getting hired and who's getting PFO'd?
The hiring formula at AC, is pretty simple:
1. Female - ink still drying on your Pilots Licence and you have a Pulse - You're Hired.
2. Francophone - "see above requirements" - You're Hired.
Hard working, high time, Anglo Male Pilot - high percentage of PFO.
It is no longer a Crown Corporation, but it is Kee-bec based and thinks like one.
