Radio License

Post by wirez »

I've applied for a radio license and completed the test (and passed). But I still havent recieved my radio license after 4 weeks. Is there anywhere I can check on the status of it?
How long does it usually take?
Thanks

Wirez,

Industry Canada handles all the Radio Licences. You can call the office nearsest your location and inquire. If your radio licence was issued by delegated examiner then you should chek with him or her to make sure they sent away the correct paperwork. Unlike T.C. Industry Canada is usually pretty good about getting the radio licences out quickly.

I found the people at industry canada extremely useful. They immediately re-issued me my RROC after i lost my wallet with no fee. All done over the phone with no huhu.

My boss's was a different story. He had passed his exam, but never got the licence. Ten years later he says "you're a pilot, sort this out for me" Those poor people at industry canada had do call two different provinces, find out who his examiner was, figure out why she was no longer on their database (no longer doing exams), find out where the examiner now was, and confirm that he had passed his exam. I waited two whole days for them to do all that and then they called me back (actually returned a call yeah). Next week our licences arrived in the mail.

TC on the other hand was a total pain in the arse, clipped me for $105, would not accept a photocopy of my licences as proof that i was a pilot, wanted to see my logbook, then balked when it was a printout of my logbook program (i no longer keep a paper log, had to point out that the law in fact specifies that i am allowed to do this). I am surprised they did not want my first born child as security.

Oh yeah, and industry canada faxed me an interim licence the same day so that i could still legally babble on the radio.

your first course of action should be to talk to the person who administered the exam. If the paperwork was submitted within a week of your writing, you should have had your licence within two to three weeks of writing the exam.

The usual cause of delay is the paperwork not being submitted in a timely manor.

Industry Canada is generally very prompt at returning licences.

For a lost licence, contact Industry Canada direct, or any authorized Examiner. Your Radio Licence is the only thing you get "FREE" in this industry, and surprisingly the service is generally the best you will receive as well.

GO FIGURE!!!!!

Here is a question:

If I were ramp checked and asked to produce my restricted radio operator license and I showed my old ALTP with the green stripe across it that has written on the inside this statement as part of the license...

Quote:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"The holder of this license has qualified in accordance with the provisions of the radio act as an operator on any aircraft radio station fitted with radio-telephone equipment, transmitting on a fixed frequency and not open to public correspondence."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Would that not suffice?

That is interesting Cat. I to had one of those licences back in the day (not the same rating).

In 1977 we were supposed to go to the Department of Communications office in our area and apply for a separate licence. There are many who have the old licences, and therefore do not have the separate ROC.

Those individuals should apply for the separate licence.

I'm guessing that you do have the separate licence?

I would say that the ramp check would result in the suggestion that the radio licence be sought.

Just a guess.

Since the radio licence is issued by Industry Canada there may be some conflict between the two Government Agencies.

I would like to see how that would be handled.

Being so long ago, I can't remember if we were "REQUIRED" to apply for the licence, or if it became a consequence of upgrading our licences.

OW :

No I do not have any other radio license.

And I have no intention of bothering to get one either.

When we were issued the license to operate aircraft radios we not only had to demonstrate voice communication knowledge but we had to demonstrate we could read morse code.

So fu.. em if they ramp check me I have a license and if its not good enought they can kiss my ass.

Fair comment!

It's interesting that around CYXD some of the worst radio procedures are comitted by T.C. inspectors while flying the King Airs.

Who should have the right to question you?

I don't have a separate radio licence either... was told when I got my PPL it was a part of that (had to do a small test of some sort)... Since then, I've needed to show a radio licence a few times to be qualified to yak on the radio here in YYZ ...and this PPL has always sufficed.

I suspect for those of us who were issued the radio licence in this way, we're grandfathered?

There is no Canadian Aviation Regulation AFAIK that requires you to possess a RROC. Therefore Transport Canada Enforcement, no matter how much they personally dislike you, would have difficulty laying a charge.

Industry Canada is actually the agency that officially cares whether or not you possess a RROC. Since it's federal, I expect the RCMP would be the ones who would charge you for not having a RROC.

Never heard of it happening, but if someone in the government dislikes you enough, they'll figure out a way to make it occur.

Interesting subject.

ndb, there ain't a hope in hell that TC would have the balls to try and get me on something like that because they know I would file another harassement complaint in a heart beat.......

But, oh, how I wish they would try can you imagine how fu..ing stupid I could make them look in the news media if they stooped to that level.....

Lets see ............ they would have to be stupid to try and get me that way........Hmmmm

Maybe they will.......

As to the RCMP.....naw, they are to busy in this area running the speed traps making money for the Government.

Cat.
