Re: To the polls!!!!
How do we go to the polls when there is only one party? I hear the Liberals are stopping short buses all over Canada in search for a party leader. Scary stuff.

It will be interesting to see what the Liberal Party looks like this time next year.Changes in Latitudes wrote:How do we go to the polls when there is only one party? I hear the Liberals are stopping short buses all over Canada in search for a party leader. Scary stuff.
Realisticly, what's the best Iggy can hope for?
He can't win a majority.
He likely can't even manage to increase the pitiful numbers of seats he has now.
If he finds himself in a position to lead a coalition, he'll get confused as to which party is grabbing his @#$%, and which has it's fist up his ass.
If the NDP lose ground to the Liberals, Jack will be clamouring for attention in a coalition. If the NDP gain seats in this election at the Liberals expense, Layton will demand the Deputy Prime Minister title or similar.
If the Bloc lose ground to the Liberals, they will likely be wary of any coalition.
Frankly his only hope is to lose just a few seats, and take a graceful exit. His legacy will look better the faster he's able to exit. At least then, his adhearants can amuse themselves in the future with tales of what might have been.

Re: To the polls!!!!
If the Libs go nowhere this time, it'll be the third time they've come up snake eyes with a new leader. Rather than ask what's wrong with the leader they should be asking what the hell's wrong with the party.
Re: To the polls!!!!
The same thing that was wrong with the PC's/Reform after Mulrooney. The origional party was too damned proud to admit they had become more about staying in power, and it's base of support abandoned it.Siddley Hawker wrote:If the Libs go nowhere this time, it'll be the third time they've come up snake eyes with a new leader. People who used to vote Liberal have drifted away because the party doesn't represent thier views anymore. They are voting NDP, Green, or CPC.
While the media are generally stuck trying to portray the Conservatives as the Hitler Youth, the reality is the CPC have nicely blended the best of the old PC's with the brightest of the Reform party. They've restored the red torys care for a progressive Canada, with the wisdom of the fiscal conservatives and thier insistance we never repeat the sins of the Trudeau era.

300 million for some backbenchers to play musical chairs for the third time in five years seems like a waste to me....

Re: To the polls!!!!
OK, let's continue this type of argument. (There must be some debate website that tells you all of the sneaky argument techniques used. I'm just too lazy to look them up.)
So you guys are saying you'd rather have anarchy or a dictatorship because it's cheaper? Move to Afghanistan or North Korea and tell me how democracy is a waste of time and money.
(Man, that's so not my style to argue like that. I need a drink now. I feel dirty.)

When we DO have an election this spring its not democracy. Just like so many other things in our society, a few people want to be able to overrule the democratic process to inflict their own agenda upon. What a ridiculous waste once again by the lefties! Thanks guys

Re: To the polls!!!!
Well, look at it this way. If the Conservatives pull a rabbit out of thier hat and win a majority, how long will it take to rebuild the $300+M when they cancel the per vote skim to the parties.

Re: To the polls!!!!
We are spending $300million because 156 people think they can run a better government than 145 people. Thats $19.5 million per vote against in the non confidence vote. When the results are in and the results are the same, can we charge this back to each candidate? Maybe we should sue each one of them in this amount. Maybe that would prevent them from spending our money on ridiculous and completely unneccessary games. Of course it wouldnt because they never have to be personally accountable for waste, but they sure have fun throwing our money around

300 000 000/11 is not 19.5 million but closer to 28 million. Or look at it as ten dollars for each vote. Ten bucks is a small price to pay to vote.

Stoopid ass Liberals. We are in the best shape of any country in the world and these circle jerkers are wanting to play a "Me Michael, hear me roar" bullshit. Iggnor nattya (Iggnatia), Laydown (Layton or Taliban Jack) and Giles Deception (Duccepte) are all a bunch of communists that will ruin this country.

Not everyone in canada has the right to vote...not everyone pays taxes...brings the amount quite a bit higher for those of us that are actually paying the billazimuthaviation wrote:300 000 000/11 is not 19.5 million but closer to 28 million. Re: Re:
Incorrect, this is exactly a democracy, the majority of canadas elected representatives decided that for one reason or another they lost confidence in the minority of canadas elected representatives. This is how a democracy works.cdnpilot77 wrote:Beefitarian wrote:If we don't have another election this spring it's not a democracy?

Was it ok when Harper called for a shotgun election for no reason when he was still pm? Was it a waste then?
Was it ok for the government of Canada to lie to parliament and the people of Canada about how it's spending their money?

Re: To the polls!!!!
The thing is, the elected officials who brought down the government don't really represent the opinion of the people of Canada if the latest polls are any indication. This is just dirty partisan politics.
And yes, it is a waste each time an election is called only a few years or months since the last one. We should have a US style election system where it is set in stone.
As for government spending, what government hasn't tried to hide spending figures? Nobody remembers when Chretien quietly bought himself a new Challenger jet after he as Liberal finance critic attacked Brian Mulroney over the Airbuses. The Liberals decry the F-35 purchase just like they did the EH-101 purchase, yet I am willing to bet that in the long chance they form the government they will either continue with the purchase or cancel it and then realize they made a mistake when CF-18s either start falling from the sky or NATO no longer accepts our contribution.
I'm not a huge Harper fan or even a PC fan, but I can honestly say that Harper hasn't done a lot to offend me. Countering that, the opposition parties' partisan mudslinging have done very little to endear me to their position.

Re: To the polls!!!!
Give me a break. You can't honestly believe that the scumbags that brought this about are doing so because they have the best interests of their constituents at heart. They are grandstanding and playing partisan politics with taxpayer dollars for NO REASON. That's the problem with this country: too many people and politicians can't put aside the partisan bullshit and actually work towards what's BEST FOR CANADA!istp wrote:I don't consider democracy a waste of money.
