Let give Gallup a run for their money.
Forget all these other polls with their boring statistics and claims of accuracy. Let's see what's on the minds of AVCANADIANs as election time draws near.
Let's keep it nice people, this is just a poll. No need to kill kittens or gloat over plane crashes... m'kay?

Re: Let give Gallup a run for their money.
Despite the fact that I feel voting is a responsibility, and I have voted in every election for which I have been eligible since I turned 18 ... I won't vote in this one unless:
(1) there is a really good reason to vote AGAINST a party. (Universal child care might do it.)
or
(2) I decide voting Green constitutes a better protest vote than not voting at all.

Re: Let give Gallup a run for their money.
I've said it since the last election there should be an option on every ballot for None.
This way we can show our distaste for all the parties and show we are willing to vote. At least then maybe more people will show up to the polls and the politicians will try harder for underrepresented demographics.

Re: Let give Gallup a run for their money.
Wrong answer. At the very least, show up and intentionally spoil your ballot.I won't vote in this one
Democracy, as I have said many time before here, is highly dysfunctional in Canada.
If half of the ballots in Canada were intentionally spoiled by an angry and disillusioned constituency, it would frighten the correct people. If you just stay away in droves, it perpetuates the impression of a disinterested, apathetic population.
Too easy.politicians will try harder for underrepresented demographics

Jeebus!
I actually agree with Hedley.
That's nuts! (considering that he's right of Attila the Hun and I'm left of Karl Marx)

The political spectrum is a circle, not a straight line, and if you're far enough out there, it's hard to tell exactly which extreme you started out as
Re: Let give Gallup a run for their money.
In case you're wondering who the other asshole that isn't voting, it's me.
I'm with the crazy Right and Left wing nuts above, if you're ELIGIBLE to vote, you better damn well vote.
I like the idea of discounted taxes for those who vote, as it would be illegal to increase the taxes for those who don't vote.

The problem, Nark, is that these people think that since their vote didn't cost them anything, it's not worth anything.if you're ELIGIBLE to vote, you better damn well vote
Sigh.
Please, people show up and vote. If you don't like any of the candidates, do everyone a favour and write
F_CK YOU
on your ballot with a Sharpie.
If ten million Canadians wrote "F_CK YOU" on their ballot, it would scare the sh1t out of some very slick, slimy, comfortable people.

Re: Let give Gallup a run for their money.
And again, the reason I did not vote rather than do that to my ballot is because I view it as completely disrespectful to a right that many have died for and many more are dying for in the world.
I will go and vote every time if I have a checkbox for NONE.

Who the @#$! do you think you are? You know absolutely nothing about me, and I do not have to explain myself to you.Hedley wrote:I will admit, niss, that you are very good at excuses. I presume that comes from years and years of practice.completely disrespectful
I have my own political beliefs, and contrary to what you may believe, people on the other side of the political spectrum as yourself are still entitled to their views. So @#$! you.

Re: Let give Gallup a run for their money.
You vote may not mean much to you.
If you do not exercise your right to vote your silence empowers those who you might not agree with.
You do not need a degree in accounting to realize that anyone who does not vote doubles the power of those who do vote.
I do not have to agree with your vote but i have to respect the outcome of the vote.
Even though the vote was devalued when it was given to those who pay no taxes,do not or will not fight for our country and yet that is the system we have.So if those who pay no taxes elect politicians that will increase your taxes rather than attempt to make it fairer for all Canadians/Canadiens.And heaven forbid that a government gets elected that brings in conscription again and you get sent to a foreign war against your will while those who have never fought for this country sit back and enjoy the fruits of the land because of their elected representatives have allowed them to enjoy privillage that your political apathy denies you.
Apathy and impotence are one and the same:they both do not give a @#$!.
So please reconsider your postion and VOTE.
Political indifference is the biggest killer of humanity in history. When peiople stop caring about who rules them then dictators and tyrants fear nobody.
If it was not for the minority government Canada would not have Universal Health Care.It was the NDP who held the liberals to ransom in the sixties to bring in a more equitable health care system that reflects the social responsibilty and love that most Canadians have for each other.
It is all about dignity.Only one party has mentioned human dignity in this campaign.
Most of the civil wars in Africa are all about the dignity of the people.
Vox dei vox populari.

Re: Let give Gallup a run for their money.
Like I said, I am all to happy to vote. And I will go to the polling station yet again. I did not vote last time because I was lazy. I was there. I did not vote last time because I did not want to support someone I disagree with.
Let me have a voice. Let me check a box that says neither and counts against everyone.
In fact, make it mandatory for everyone to vote, but give them an option for none.

Re: Let give Gallup a run for their money.
I would tend to agree. I don't particularly agree with all of the Green party's platform, but from what I see they have the best chance of making a protest vote count. Last year they came in second to the Conservatives in the riding I vote in, and I hope that sends a message to the powers that be, that they don't have certain ridings sewn up by a traditional voting blocks.Brewguy wrote:That's precisely what I've been doing for the last 3 elections.Prairie Chicken wrote:(2) I decide voting Green constitutes a better protest vote than not voting at all.
I'm not convinced they would take that message, mainly because there would still be traditional votes which would be tallied and MPs would still get their jobs and pat themselves on the back for getting elected. Only if 36 million eligible voters sent this message would it be effective. If ten million Canadians wrote "F_CK YOU" on their ballot, it would scare the sh1t out of some very slick, slimy, comfortable people.
We can't stop here! This is BAT country!

Re: Let give Gallup a run for their money.
What if a majority chose "none of the above"? Is there a council of elders who step in and run things? Or are we all on our own after that? Maybe if that happened we could start a system where everyone gets to pick from a list of parties that most closely represents their views and whoever gets the most votes ...oh wait, nevermind.

Re: Let give Gallup a run for their money.
Whatever your position on the political spectrum, on May 2nd we have the opportunity to exercise a very important hard fought for right we should all be greatful for. Although we all may vote for different parties we should all at least be united in sharing in the magnitude and importance of this act. Never take it for granted, because its not guaranteed and not everyone in the world has it. Of course im talking about the three consecutive paid hours off your employer must give you on election day. Dont squander them!
