Proof that Samuel L Jackson is more important than, well, maintaining separation.

Maybe he should have been watching a movie with a little more relavance such as Pushing Tin, or Snakes On A Plane!!

8-9 hours between shifts, not allowed to sleep while on breaks...sounds like the problems is not the controllers but the rules they work under.

The article didn't mention a loss of separation or that separation was compromised. I guess that was just something you decided to add on your own, eh Dan?

Naw, as far as I've heard there was no safety compromised, but what a way to get caught. They did mention that his mic was stuck on tx, so I'm guessing the frequency was locked up because of it. That's a bit of an issue.
And yes, sounds like working conditions aren't great, but you'll pardon me if I don't have gobs of sympathy for the employee. It's still no excuse. I often work 12 hour shifts with 8 hours in between, but it would be inappropriate of me to ignore or sacrifice duties while working, for any reason!

I don't think anybody thinks it's a good thing that the movie was being watched, the problem with our industry is if you look at the end result and say hey your a bad person for doing that. You not only create a industry of cover your ass, you also loose any chance of finding out why they were doing it in the first place. Clearly if controllers are watching movies at a center while watching a blank screen then is this a big deal? Not in my opinion. If there are two airplanes at opposite sides of the screen not converging, also not a big deal. I got Wx in at a VFR airport and went and sat in the tower for 6 hours. The controller had a TV and we watched every thing from guiding light to survivor. he was on shift watching TV was he suppose to be watching the runways that he couldn't see in case there was a stealth 172 that tried to sneak out?
