Instrument Renewal (should change to FAA system)

Post by Instructor »

I propose that we adopt the U.S. system for Instrument renewal and currency.

FAA system 61.57

Instrument is good for life. If you want to exercise the priviledges of your instrument you need to do 6 approaches, holding procedures; and intercepting and tracking courses with navaids in the last 6 months.

If you are not current well then you do an instrument proficiency check with a FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR, not transport canada.

The costs and availability of examiners is uncalled for. Seems to work in the states things should change and not be so complicated and costly for pilots in Canada to maintain a rating or licence.

Good lobby direction for CAAP.

My two cents

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no

After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Hey guys, this is Canada where you need 5000 hours to get a float job up north, and let's face it, they know we all pay so they make us pay for extra training to renew the ifr, because they do not care. Your idea of having to go up with an instructor sounds great even the chief pilot but no we all have $300 dollars to cough up to Transport Canada. JUst talked to a guy that has Cessna 210's and says he needs 750 hours total time, WOW!
enough said, I don't mean to sound like a suck but guys wake up. BS

Yes, it shouldn't cost a month groceries for a family to renew an existing rating. But then again, when has the government ever admitted they charge too much? I've always thought how amazing Canada is when it comes to taxation.
We tax books and education and fees where aplicable, on existing skill and knowledge.

Thanks to Brian we tax toilet paper, I mean how shitty is that? Pun intended. But believe it or not, under the GST that he brought out, toothpaste, deodorant, and yes, toilet paper; are luxuries and therefore taxable. As for books, we live in a system where it's a right, not a privilege to get an education, hell up to I believe the age of 17, it's a requirement, yet we charge taxes on textbooks. the system seems to be a wee bit skewed in favour of someone and it ain't the taxpayers.

A DFTE is not as bad as doing a flight test with transport!!

We do a lot of IFR renewals at my school and... Most people put in 1 or 2 flights before the ride.

@ 200 hrs teaching... could you imagine a 200 class 4 doing a check ride.
