As stated in the ad, the job is overseas and it references the rotations of 50 on 34 off. Along with the OP I'd like to know of any new info about the company (hours/maintenance/pay/living conditions)? Thanks. FNC

Actually, having worked in Chad, and work with many people who have flown in Afghan, it's actually not bad at all. Keep in mind what you see in the media is sensationalized. Although if overseas work in general is not your cup of tea, then you won't enjoy it. But I've had as much fun in these kinds of places as I have in more "peaceful" third world countries.

I was told (by a company employee) that if you are employed with R1 you have to live in Calgary even if you have overseas assignments. One thing you might check on before you apply to them.

In fact it does indicate the need to relocate to Calgary in their job ad. I suspect that it is because even if you are mainly overseas, there is always the potential for you to fly one of their local/domestic charters.

I see that they have posted Dash CA and FO spots. This is the 3rd or 4th posting in the past month looking for pilots. Does anyone know if there is that much movement or just trouble finding guys?

Currently have contracts in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Chad. With local work out of Calgary and Thunderbay. With increased work and some guys moving on; R1 is short of guys and need to replenish.

If you need some info: Send me a PM.

R1 is replacing a Dash-8 in Chad that CHC is returning and bidding on the contract which CHC no longer wants. 2 Dash-8's.
The compitition is stiff though with 4 or 5 bidders so who knows if they will get it.

Why would anyone relocate their family to Calgary only to be deployed out of country for 2 or more months at a time? Maybe R1 would have more success with keeping pilots if they copied the same format that VAL does and will let the pilot live where the pilot wants to and send the pilot to where company wants to.

Just my 2 cents worth...............

because they want to try to work you when you're back in Canada from your 2 month rotation!

So you work overseas, in places which might charitably be described as "interesting". Then you come back and do local work, I think that nukes the Overseas Employment Tax Credit.

Maybe they should have overseas pilots and local pilots, and not try to mix the two? If overseas guys knew they could later bid Calgary or Thunder Bay, I think it might be good for staff retention?

I'd hate to see Regional 1 become a training school for Voyageur.

X2 on both points!

Does anyone know if the YQT contract is the Wasaya DHC-8 Mine thing?

Wasaya yes, not the mine- that's separate. It's for the new dash 8s that do scheduled passenger service.
