I've worked the ramp with Sunwing pilots and some of the guys work in Canada seasonally.
The two pilots I talked with are both from England and work here during the slow winter season.

So I'm not too sure how many you will find lurking around on AvCanada this time of year.

Up to 6 months overseas, no housing provided, bare costs provided? Are they serious?

I just interviewed and was so disappointed. The guys laughed when I told them I think it would be a better lifestyle, props to them for showing their honesty.

You will be sent overseas for 6months mandatory. You have to find your own living arrangements and transportation. Except one place last year they had a car for you. You will not save any extra money going overseas, the amount the compensate you is just totally disrespectful for requiring someone to leave their home country behind. For many of us we still have to make mortgage payments, car payments, cell payments etc, and not use them.

Might be a nice group of guys, but I don't think this lifestyle will fit most of us. Thanks for considering me sunwing.

2 year bond...not the greatest schedule...

I would have no problem going overseas for a a few months, but look after me while I am there, at least. Sunwing has a great group of people for sure, but they much deserve better. This sets a nasty precedent for other operators to follow.

Yeah a 24,000 bond decreasing 1000 a month at this stage of the game should say it all. Make the working conditions better and you won't need a bond.

I don't know about the pilots but when we broke down in Cuba and had to stay another day on our return flight last winter, the flight attendants told us they were not being paid for that extra time. They're only paid per flying hours, true story.

But yes indeed they are a great team and did a wonderful job in a sketchy situation.

Wow, that really is brutal. From what I'm hearing, even Canjet's first year of overseas deployments includes housing and a car. I thought Sunwing always supplied these things in the past? If so, wonder why the change now .

It is a note no money upfront. They are interviewing 30 people for 8 spots.

I think they are looking for people who will be able to put up with bs long term.

The perdiem in manchester was 70 pounds a day with car included, you had to find housing and eat with that. The other places I guess the perdiem was slightly higher but you had to get your own car and house. Goodluck finding a car for 6months.

Things are going downhill here. On radio today they are selling tickets for 50 to east or west coast.... Let's hope that is not $1 soon....

No housing, you find your own. Its not cheap there.

Absolutely, good affordable housing North Shore. However, I can go back to my milk crate furniture from university after slugging it out in commercial aviation for 10 years to make it work. Discarded pizza boxes are an excellent source of cheese as well.

Add council taxes, utilities and internet to those prices. Plus, if you go through a letting agent, be prepared to present plenty of paperwork before being allowed to rent (some letting agents even charge around £95/person living in the property, for credit checks).

So what (how much?), exactly, do you want CiL? You get 2100 pounds/month tax free and your Canadian salary ($3k? $4K? $5k?) seems sufficient enough to me for a six-month gig in Jolly Olde. It's not like you're going to be living in West Vancouver as a pilot anyways...

Besides, if you don't like the condtions, then don't apply...

Sunwing Travel Group made a profit of $30 million in the last year.

Been deployed to Europe (as per my bids) for 4 summers and i was always taken care of with a very decent per diem and/or a hotel room + a car.

My advice to you all: Stop starting rumors.

I'm not sure how any of this is a rumor when it is direct from your company. This is the information being put forward in the interview.

Yeah, so, you guys are ridiculous. Each and every deployment includes accommodation and a car, and daily per diems are higher, in most cases much, much higher, than mentioned in this discussion. What you say you were told in the interview is completely off and clearly lacks credibility. Really guys, what company would make a mockery of their own operation like that? And how is it that people are actually believing this garbage?
As for the bond, at least you get paid for your work. Sunwing's a charter company, they need to protect themselves from giving away free training, big deal. It's more respectable to actually pay your pilots for their work, while protecting yourself with a pro-rated bond, than discount their salary for the first two years (Air Canada), essentially charging pilots for their training right out of the gate. Sunwing pays more compared to Air Canada in the first two years than this bond even amounts to, not to mention the couple of years to follow, and that doesn't include the extra $6500 per month, tax free, that you can pocket in per diems on deployment. Don't get me wrong, Air Canada has a lot to offer, like stability and advancement, but as an alternative, I think Sunwing's a pretty good deal.

Clearly, there is some sort of miscommunication coming out of these interviews. Everyone I have talked to has given me the same information that others have posted earlier in the thread. If your post does indeed reflect the pay structure, then I retract my statement and offer an apology for following misinformation, Jofo. I'm really curious why there is mixed information.

I'm not sure what interview you were at...but I took away none of that BS from it. The guys were pleasant upfront and explained their operation very clearly. They said each contract is different and allowances, accomd, car were included in some and if not the allowances go up substantially!! It was also stressed that it was bid on and that this was up and above your salary so if mortgage and car and cell were not being paid before...well this was not going to help you. It would not cost you to go overseas and you would be able to save some!!If you drank and boozed away 70+ pounds a day, well thats your problem. Do you spend 100 bucks a day on food at home??? Is it for everyone??? NO! but would it not be better to be told what it is and make your decision before its your only source of income!!
General HR questions and not technical! Guess they figured I don't have to know about the square root of the vertical lift vector on the camber of the space shuttle! Good on them! leave that crap to the engineers and teach me how to fly it..not build it.

These interviews were by internal reference only as I was told by my friend,,what did your references tell you?? It was 9 to 5 and 200 grand a year with a limo to pick you up for work?? I know what mine told me... good start pay for an F/O, first jet job, real coffee, FMC's, autopilots, flight attendants...sure as hell beats my job....
so i sign a bond for 2 yrs..take me that long to learn the airplane and feel comfortable! unless your happy now..

Having read just how many hours WestJet averages per class, just curious what sort of averages sunwing is getting? Anyone with 3000ish hours getting a look? If so, what kind of time do you have?

Interviewed almost 2 weeks ago. 3300TT no jet
