I laughed at first then I got really scared. There are so many people these days that have no idea what they eat/drink comes from!

For example I know of some city dweller kids that thought for certain carrots where bight sized, evenly orange and came in little plastic bags. Lets face them suckers are stupidly convenient to grab a handful stuff into your lunch for quick snack. So these kids went to visit a relative who lived out in the country. They also happened to be avid gardeners with a very large veggie patch. The host asks the kids, would you like a carrot? Sure they like carrots for snacks. Well here lets go out to the garden. Showed the kids how to yank them out of the ground, washed them under the garden hose, snapped the greens off and handed them to the kids. They would not eat them. Some thing that just came out of the ground and then was washed off under hose water? Gross!

There is a generation that does not know that carrots are not uniform little orange tubes, water tastes best from the garden hose when playing out side for hours on end and if you caught it your self it always makes a tasty supper. As an aside I recently went back to buying the little bunches of carrots with the greens still on them and often with a little dirt still attached. Wack the greens off, quick wash in cold water and they have so much more flavor than ones in the bag.

I think expat was referring to the impression that San Fran is a center for the light in the loafers team.
