NHL, ARE YOU STILL WATCHING?

Post by MUSKEG »

Is it just me or are you finding the hockey playoffs hype basically over? Yes the cities with teams involved are still watching but my impression is that the rest of the hockey crowd is into summer stuff and are only watching in an uninterested way. For some reason I am finding the series uninteresting and bland. To many days in between games and people lose the flow required to stay involved. Summer is to short in Canada to spend it watching a winter sport. My suggestion is start the season three weeks earlier and end it three weeks earlier.

Pretty sure this is a Water Cooler type of topic....

The first round was great hockey, the second generally terrible, the third so far has been somewhere in between. I watch a lot of hockey and even I get a bit past it by the time mid-late May roles around. The playoffs should start earlier, and the regular season should be cut to 75 games or thereabouts, but it'll never happen, too much money involved.

I like it since it allows hockey to go long enough into spring/ summer for the CFL to start and you can start watching that then the NFL starts and by the time the superbowl is over hockey is getting interesting again as teams are getting into playoff races. Although I agree Betman is an awful commish.

Yeah and I think they are running a day behind. Vancouver game should have been tonight. TB and Boston last night.

I believe there were arena commitments that did not allow the game tonight as is often the case for scheduling this time of year

Arena commitments is correct... just like first round at the Bell Centre got put off due to AC/DC and Lady Gaga.

STL, I agree that the season should be cut short. Not by much... a half dozen games would do it.

Montreal is out, so I've been slightly uninterested... the trick is to bet on the series and sometimes if another is willing, the game. It makes it worth watching.

Oh, oh... I may have a gambling addiction to add to my alcoholism.

Not much of a hockey person, by I run through York Cemetery most days and often stop off at Tim Horten's grave. Yesterday I noticed someone had place a photo of the Leafs from around 1970 - a lot of familiar faces.

I agree the season should end sooner. Who wants to watch TV when the wx is so nice? Why couldn't the season start earlier and finish earlier?

I've wondered at times if perhaps the late season is for US fans. Probably half the people in the stadium are there solely for the air conditioning.

I think it is all based around the Leafs..... so they can get a full golf season in.
