Mount Royal ends aviation program

Post by sean.j »

I had heard rumours of this but turns out every one of their aircraft have cancelled C of R's and are up for sale, and yet they just posted a job add for a CFI?

does anyone know what the CFI will do with out air planes?

As far as I know MRC never owned any aircraft. Jack Peacock did/does? CCA me if I'm wrong...

It doesnt matter who actually owns the aircraft, the operator's name must be on the registration (who has custody and control of the aircraft).

I heard a rumor that MRC is replacing their fleet with brand new aircraft as a knee-jerk reaction to several recent mechanical incidents.

That's the current one going around. Currently all their students are out of luck to do any flying with them over the summer. Since its before noon and I haven't heard a new rumor yet... Word has it they're replacing the fleet with Technams, including a pair of those new P2006s to replace the old Cougars.

Cougars? As in semi hot post 30 year old women that cruise for younger guys at the bars? What are the mechanical issues and prices on the ones they're selling off?

As I understand from my co-pilots, replacement cougars should be easy to find at several Calgary locations.

Sorry, not even my co-pilots with shiny jet syndrome could help with that.

Sounds like thier tough times continue. Have not been around there in years but sounds like thier old CFI (yes, with no IFR rating) either got run out by the chair of the program or had enough. Too bad for the students who would like to get done and get out and start looking for jobs as the industry starts to hire again. Too bad for the instructors who now have no job or income till fall.....................if the program even continues. The glory days are now over.

So to sum it up they have no staff, no planes. I just went through that program 4 years ago and now it may not be recognized, even though it was one of the top programs in the country. Who the hell ran the program into the ground? the staff was friendly,, knowledgeable and now their worse off than a 1 plane mom and pop show

Wow, you guys can certainly take a rumor and run with it. They could be replacing the fleet, they could be planning to lease or they could be planning to contract out the flight training to a local FTU and just run the college classes, like other college programs do. I don't think they'd appreciate the negative press some people here are offering as conjecture so maybe we should just wait and see.

contract out the flight training to a local FTU
then your not really getting your education from mount royal now are you.

they had an awesome program 4 years ago WTF happened to it? how did they hit the point of no A/C and one employee? Where the hell do they think their going to get an entire flight department (AME's , instructors, dispatch) for September. And how are they going to keep them if they fire everyone every 8 months for the summer.

Um, instuctors and airplanes don't vary a heck of a lot from one FTU to another. I'm sure there are ten FTU's inside of an hour of that school that would love to pick up that kind of capacity from the school. They come with their own maintenance facilities and airplanes, that doesn't have to be arranged by Mt Royal.

I don't want to make it sound like that's what's going to happen I'm just saying it's very easy to arrange.

instructors vary widely from a class 4 at a puppy mill to the instructors I had at mount royal.

but you probably don't get that.

needless to say I don't think Jazz will be knocking on their door any time soon looking for pilots again

Sean.j's Mount royal education makes him vastly superior to anyone out there.
Respect his opinion folks....

Yeah, I'm going to miss you guys using your superior skills overshooting our 'short' 3000 ft runway just about every time you try and land here. SATC has you beat hands down in that respect... :D

He might be thinking of when a cougar is sighted with one or more offspring in a pack hunting at a bar. The young ones are bobcats.

If the program is indeed shutting down as I had heard last week from a fellow MRC alumni, then it's truly sad. Sounds like the program has really gone downhill. :(

How many people got kicked out of your puppy mill cause they didn't measure up. Please P.M. me one name.

Now all the extra money I invested to have that name on my resume, was wasted by what. The Dean in charge of the aviation program should be fired for letting this program get to this point
