What do you think is the best book for initial IFR training?

Post by andy_mtl »

Good day folks,

I am looking on some advice on what book to buy for IFR training.
My seasonal VFR job is now coming to a end as the winter aproaches and i step from 3 jobs to just 2, i will have the time to get my group 1 finally done.

I do have the TC publication however they say not to rely on it too much for the gps info...

if anyone has any suggestions on what books to study on, it is as always much appriciated!

Thanks to all,

Andy

I would read through the RAC and COM sections of the AIM very thoroughly. As questions come up, look up the answers online.

If your talking about just the INRAT side of it and not the flying IMO all you need is the CAP GEN and the COM and RAC section of the AIM. There's no need to go wasting your money in all those fancy books and ground schools. I wrote 88% on mine yesterday and that is all I looked at.

Look, if you are looking for some great FREE books here are two which the FAA publishes:

http://www.faa.gov/library/manuals/avia ... _handbook/

http://www.faa.gov/library/manuals/avia ... _handbook/

OK, yes, they do not talk about unique Canadesque topics such as Approach Bans, CAP, and other stuff like that but they are great manuals and as I pointed out, they are FREE and an excellent value for that price.
