Will the LCC come back to haunt AC Employees in the future?
Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if you guys have any info on this topic? I understand it has been turned down this time around due to a Pilot Vote, but whats to say the company won't try and bring it back sooner or later? Something I have been thinking about. Thanks a lot everyone.

I'd say the current issues at Qantas are a snapshot into Air Canada's future if they go through with it.

Everybody is always very quick to point out the Jetsar/Qantas situation which does indeed seem not a good deal for Qantas employees in the long run...
...but what about Lufthansa's low cost carrier German Wings? It seems German wings has grown to a decent size battling other low costs all the while Lufthansa continues to grow and make money. I know German Wings pilots are on LHs seniority list (in one way or another) ...how is it this mainline/low cost duo seems to be working?
Any insight?

Im not sure what the low cost carrier is going to offer customers that will be less than they currently have? Our economy class offers drinks snacks and buy on board and TV. Its the same as West Jet offers. The machines have to be maintained to the same level, pilots and fa's have to have the same training, so from a customer point of view it probably wont change much.
From a cost point of view, we will never get down to West jet's costs with all our legacy costs that West Jet does not yet share, so the only dollar i see that CR is going to get is out of the staff. It looks like we will be subsidising our jobs. The pay structure for our guys and their guys are probably not that far off at the end of the day for the same size equipment and type of work so any concession for the low cost carrier type of work, will be at a lower rate than our low cost competition.
In my humble opinion, this is the first step in having this farmed out, either by creating it and selling it off or filing for protection again and getting rid of more domestic business, which is in line with our southern neighbours.
Short answer to your question, is Yes it will come back to haunt us.

Good point, bearinmind. This is nothing more than a a long term plan to union-bust.
