If a new Instructor starts with a school and they have not been checked out on all aircraft types is it their responsibility to pay for this or is it normal for the school to pay? Any advice appreciated.

It depends on the school.
I paid (not quite full price) to check out in 2 of the 5 aircraft types at the school I was at for the 'privilege' to instruct on them. I was already current on two of them (did my instructor rating there) and the school paid for the checkout on another due to student demand.

The flight school I work for covers all the costs for instructor checkouts and training. We also get paid half time for all of our staff training sessions.

The school paid for both check rides and added an extra hour, at my leisure to practice different configs etc. to ensure I was confortable with the A/C. They also cover A/C costs for re-rides etc. I guess I'm luckier than I thought.

We pay for all training on all aircraft. But then again, we're a 702/703, so we've got to do the training anyways...

That's very good. Sounds like a good place.

My school paid.

The Club took care of it for all our types back then.

So 'swords' tell us are you just curious or are you currently being asked to pay by a new employer?

I have not started with the school yet and the cost of checkouts has not been mentioned. I want to know how to handle the question when it arises. I do appreciate the feedback though.
