Is it time for a move to Air Canada?

Post by manyratings »

Hello fellow aviators. I am trying to get some input from the people on the inside on working for AC. I have an interview coming very soon and i guess i have the typical questions associated with that.

What positions are they looking to fill?
What is it like trying to commute from YEG?
What do you do if you are hired and don't like the position you get?
How can i live on the salary, is it worth it as time goes on?
Is this the place to be or should one wait for the western airline to call?

I guess what i am looking for is some experience and guidance from people that have done this move or may want to make this move.

It is a very interesting time in Canadian aviation with all the majors (705's) hiring and the wave seems to be ramping up in all areas. So where do you think the AC path will lead in 3yrs/ 5yrs etc, for someone new? Then of course we can talk about the low cost side of things? How will that effect the new guy?

It is very confusing to know what direction to take when you read some of the airline forums; as it is mostly filled with the typical disgruntled pilot out there trying to make a living and posting thoughts that really have no positive effect.

Now i have been in the game for 12years so i know what it's like trying to etch out a living when the target keeps moving. So i hope with this that i can get some genuine insights into things from the people out there that are and were like me. Don't forget that we are all pilots and share similar dreams ( or did ), so lets treat each other with that respect regardless of what jacket we are wearing.
I look forward to your comments, and thank you for the help.

Apply, and if you are hired, then worry about the problems you outlined above.

With AC, many are called but few are chosen. And if you don't really want the job or have to be talked into it, I could point out a thousand guys who probably would run thru a brick wall for it.
