The right stuff was a great movie. They just don't make movies like that anymore. (see miscellaneous forum, where my head explodes all over the wall after seeing Hitchhiker!!)
Dambusters
Battle of Britain
Hells Angels

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.
I'm with oldtimer and Benwa.
Also 633 Squadron. Also The High And The Mighty and The Island In The Sky. Wayne's son Michael and the producers have apparently buried the hatchet and both these films are to be released on DVD later this year I hear.
I forgot about "Those Magnificent Men". What a great movie. Flying magazine had a couple of articals about how they built and flew those replicas. If I remember correctly, some of those airplanes were so historically correct they ended up as museum display pieces. The British did a good job on some war movies. "Reach for the Top" - the Douglas Bader biography, ." 633 Squadron", "The Dambusters"

An oldie but goodie was Captain of The Clouds, staring James Cagney.Made in the early 40's at Uplands airport in Ottawa and just north of Ottawa for the bush scenes.
A little movie trivia for those who saw the original "Flight of the phoenix".
Did you know that the stunt pilot hired to fly the glider died in the crash right at the enfd of the movie where they disappear over the hill.

I did. And that whole scene made me uncomfortable knowing that
But that's worth knowing, people should appreciate the flying that goes into some of these movies.
Same as the guy that did the flying for top gun the filming of the flat spin was done by Art Shole and it was in a pits the camara was to heavy it was mounted to the rudder and could not get out of the spin.
Airport 19xx? The Concorde. George Kennedy opens the cockpit DV window at altitude and M2.05 to fire off a flare from a handheld flare gun to fool the heat seeking missle fired by the bad guys. didn't even mess his hair(piece). Kept me on the edge of my seat watching that. How did they do that??? It was real quick thinking on the part of the co-pilot. YUK YUK YUK.

If you watch Airport again, there is a scene where they are cleared direct to the Klienberg VOR, then they dial in 114.50 on the radio head. Whoever was in charge of the technical editing was very detailed indeed!
