Possible Regional Routes
I'm for one amazed at the number of smaller communities asking for us to come in since our announcement of the Regional procurement process.

You get the pilots and we can make sure the main wheels and the brakes are good to go and we should skid a -600 in just to say thanks, we're coming....Makes me proud to wear the blue.

That would be extremely classy!bombardierfixer wrote:You get the pilots and we can make sure the main wheels and the brakes are good to go and we should skid a -600 in just to say thanks, we're coming....Makes me proud to wear the blue.
Sure miss days hanging out in Penticton after our run from YVR to YYC... canal floating, hanging out on the dock at the Lakeside resort afterwards!
Re: Possible Regional Routes
I got engaged to my wife during a layover in YYF during my CMA days over a decade ago.
The F/O sent up a bottle of champagne later that afternoon at the Lakeside.
Good times in that town.

It's a very nice effort by the community, however, I wouldn't hold my breath on YYF being high on the WJX hit list. It may get added a ways down the road, but imo there are far better opportunities out there.
At last count, Penticton was about #45 on the list of top markets in Canada and is an hours drive from Kelowna.
WestJet is currently in 32 domestic markets.
There are a number of markets out there that could be targeted for other tactical and strategic reasons that would not cannibalize existing markets as YYF would most certainly do to YLW.

Awesome! Reminds me of Kamloops' pitch from a couple of years ago.

Re: Possible Regional Routes
I have heard of some cities or airports in the US and Europe subsidizing airlines like Southwest or Easyjet to serve their market, are their any arrangements similar to that here in Canada with WJ?
Re: Possible Regional Routes
Of course communities want WJ regional to serve their airports. more competition means lower ticket prices as airlines once again price themselves into the "red". Unlike what some passengers think it's not price gouging on these routes, it's actually charging what the product is worth.

Not sure if it was WJ in both cases, but Charlottetown (YYG) and Sydney (YQY) have both either subsidized or made it difficult for a competitor.
Re: Possible Regional Routes
On the subject of subsidies, does Canada have an EAS program like in the states?
