Exceptionally well written, and a huge lesson to be learned through this man's trials and tribulations.

Definitely a great story for anyone struggling with alcoholism or any type of addiction. It's a long climb back to a normal life for an addict, but from seeing a recovery first hand, it can be done with great support from family and friends.

I applaud this gentleman for overcoming his addiction, and for all the hard work he had to endure to get his CPL back. I knew a guy that this happened to, but he didnt have to re write his exams etc. He got lucky and he knows it, so he made the choice to give up booze before something this dramatic occured to his career. There is a lesson in this story for ALL of us.

This is a great article and I really enjoyed reading it. Many thanks for posting it. It reminds me of a saying that I heard years ago ...... There, but for the grace of God, go I. This is a great story of one man getting his life back on track through his own personal convictions and a lot of help from some really good people in his life.

Honestly guys it's all fun and games until something happens. And in today's world of
Social media, a social bevie or 2 can destroy a career. Even the acusation can cause serious grief. It's just not worth it.

Good read.

I have to wonder though, why it is necessary to hit bottom? Why do so many need to make the tragic errors that require such hard work to dig out of the hole they have created, and then give thanks for all those hardships?

I listen to my daughter being 'thankful' for all the difficulties she has endured, and being so 'grateful' for all these opportunities for growth. I don't get it. I'd do what I could to avoid being in that bad situation, but if I found myself there anyway either due to my own poor decision or just the luck of the draw, I'd be pissed.

It sounds much like religion to me. Some folks thank God, no matter what He throws at them; others wonder how there can be a God who allows such sorrow in the world.

Ah well, way to philosophical for this early in the morning. I'd go have a beer, but I don't do that anymore. At least, not often.

Unfortunately hitting bottom is what it takes for that person to realize they have a problem. Most drunks are business owners and personally driven people, problem is they/we are so head strong to say we don't/didn't have a problem. It is when you finally give up and say, I have a problem. Only then do people recover. Part of it is pure genetics, along the same as diabetes. Many families will have a history of alcoholism, for some it is just a product of there surroundings.

It is always easy to say i would have done it this way, until it has happened to you.
