Let's say I'm en route. How can I determine the nearest FSS from the VNC ?

Just curious, but why would you want to determine the nearest FSS? Or do you mean you want to know the nearest RCO to a FIC for enroute information?
The easiest way to see the RCO's I know of is they are all listed out in the CFS. See page B1129 for Winnipeg FIC RCO's for example.

If your VNC'S have not been updated for a few years, they may not depict the location of RCO's nor their proper frequencies.
Several FSS facilities have been closed or had their operational responsibilities changed I've the past few years. YEV and YVQ for instance are now airport advisory only, and Arctic Radio assumed the flight-planning and weather transmission responsibilities. The change also came with a new frequency. Not on the current VNC'S

RCO updated maps and frequencies are published here every 56 days.
