Licensed AME jobs in canada after AVEOS callapse

Post by YSC »

Hi all, is there anyone here got layoff by Aveos and still can't find a job right now? especially for licensed avionics wise, for me yes I got layoff by Aveos back at march, sent resume all over canada and got zero return, really discouraging right now for me and I don't want to sit on EI at all.

For the folks who is working now, do you guys notice there is a sudden surge of resume floating into the office after Aveos callapse?

thanks all

I also lost my job with Aveos in Vancouver. Same thing , sent resumes all over country and nothing back. Also heard Air Canada is going to be having a huge recall. Sucks for all of us who had to give up our recall rights. Now we have nothing.

My feeling is the people from Air Canada maintenance are type cast and will have a hard time finding work in any enviroment other than the one they were in, eg, union shop, heavy iron, etc etc. And there are few of these anymore.

I dont think the people running a small charter business will hire you. Or even the 3rd and 4th tier people. Of course there are excptions but the feeling is most of the people don't have the type of experience required, maybe even the work ethic which is wrong but a price one pays for a career in a big shop

Thanks for the input from kilpicki, i admit before I was being hired by air canada/aveos 1 1/2 years ago I do share the same feeling as you.

As for my background I came from general aviation and were in this industry for several years, began by working up north, then make my way down to south and eventually couldn't resist the chance of working in Air Canada one and a half years ago. Working with big jet is always my passion and I want to do give a shot and fulfill my childhood dream.

As I start working on the floor at the first few weeks I notice right away that the work environment is totally different from everywhere, but then you will notice that there are peoples that they will do nothing for whole day and playing sudoku, and yet, there are people that will work non-stop from beginning of the shift to clean up time without any complain and even carry a big smile.

I hope everyone out there will give us a chance get to know us before saying that we are having problem with work ethic simply because we worked for air canada, give the right guy a chance you will be amaze by what they really capable of.

But then as the market out their is abundance of resume, i hope it will be just the matter of time for the hardworking guy to find the job before change the field.

Good luck

thanks for sharing that, you're right that you should be given a chance. In your case I'd not put your AC time on your CV if applying for a job at one of the many places advertising for M1,M2. If you apply at KFC or Cascade then put that time on. lots of work out there, good luck

To Kilpiki: Not fair to say all of us that worked at Air Canada are write-offs. There was good people and some not so good, but that goes for any work environment.
And as for the work, it was challenging and to me no different than anything we would encounter on smaller aircraft.
Companies should check people first before saying we are all bad apples.

It's not fair that we are all cast as 'Bad Apples' (Ex-A/C) however it's a fact that I'm starting to become accustomed to. It's true that there were an inordinate amount of completely useless people working there, whether it being that they were poor at their job, lazy, or a combination of both, however on the same hand there was a large group of talented people who were genuinely good at their job (Veteran30 being one of them). In my search for work lately, I've been continually running across this attitude that we are all useless, lazy slugs and although nothing is said, I know there is a definate reluctance to take us on as employees. I can only hope that this will change, and we're judged on our merits and work ethic, however I don't see that happening anytime soon... and that's a shame.

There are lots of other things you can go into with an avionics background.

Have you tried places like Coast Mountain Bus, Telus or BC Hydro? They're always looking for people with backgrounds in electronics.

Just had a look on Skytrain's careers section, they are looking for a "Vehicle Technician". Some of the qualifications listed are:

"Approved formal trade qualifications or recognized equivalent in one of the following trades (electrical, electronics, or heavy duty mechanic)"

Experience in the repair and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems;
Minimum of five (5) years maintenance experience;

Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a maintenance team

Looks like a perfect job for an Avionics guy to apply to. Give it a try. You've got nothing to lose by sending them a resume.

If you absolutely must stay in aviation...for whatever reason... Kelowna Flight Craft is looking for an Avionics Bench Technician.
