CI is a ratio of the cost of flying time to the cost of fuel. It is determined by dividing the dollar cost per hour of operating expense of the aircraft, excluding fuel, by the cost of fuel in cents per pound or dollars per kg. the lower the CI the slower the speed for better fuel savings. The higher the CI the greater the speed wich saves time and time dependant operating expenses.

So, how does this all tie in with Canjet flying Air Transat paint on up to 12 hulls next winter? What are we going to throw on the side? "Transat Express"?

ALPA needs to voraciously throw this one down, or give up as our representatives. Believe me: letters are going out to both National and Lee Moak very soon. If our in-house guys can't deal with this one, they will be replaced.

For Airbus, a CI of 0= minimum fuel burn (max range), while a CI=999 represents minimum time (go fast). Usually a transatlantic crossing has a CI of around 17. For short hops or thru-flights (ex yyz-yul), it's usually around 40. The FMS will use the CI you input, along with upper winds, CG, weight and desired cruise level to calculate an ECON cruise speed.
