Hi,
I am looking to go over to Canada in September to do do a 50-Hour Seaplane, Mountain and Bush Pilot Floatplane Training Course. I am looking at two schools at the moment, Island coastal Aviation and Ocean Air Seaplane Training, and was wondering if anyone could give me any information on either.

In response to my thread: I am just finishing up my 50 hour float plane course with David Budd at Ocean air, and can say that I am very happy and know I made the best decision for my training. Dave was a very good instructor who taught me a lot and challenged me every flight and I plan on useing the knowledge he taught me for the rest of career. The C180 i trained on was kept at a very high standard and was never a problem during my training. I visited some very lovely places and enjoyed my time training very much. I will defiantly miss my time training in C-GYVA with Dave In beautiful British Columbia

Is it normal to ask for $ in full up front for a 50 hour float course? I'm thinking it's a huge red flag. This is not how things work in the contracting business that I'm in. Or is this standard practice?

Yes, HUGE red flag. Every flight training outfit I've ever gone to is cash on the nail. I could reluctantly see, for whatever reason, having an hour or two on account, but the full 50 hour deal - no bloody way!! What happens when they go TU a week after you've started training?

It may just be "conditioning" you for your first job, where your overseer, um, er, employer will ask for money up front.....
