JAA FI in Vancouver? and questions about EU logbook!

Post by alex2kdl »

Hi,

I spent the past year in the french Caribbean and built 35 hours of JAA training on a C172SP (at TFFG, TFFJ, TQPF, TNCM, etc). I also completed ground school and theory exams. I now find myself in Vancouver (started a phd at UBC) and I would like to finish my JAA hours before returning to the french Caribbean in December and take the practice exam.

Are there any JAA instructors and European registered SEP planes around Vancouver?

What other option do I have? Take a lesson once a month with a Canadian instructor just not to forget how to fly? Should I have the Canadian instructor sign my french pilot log? Can I log as PIC for dual received here in Canada (that's what I do in France)? I know these hours wouldn't count towards my JAA permit but you ever know in life :-P

Thanks a lot!

Sounds complicated - I'd find go to your local FTU (flight training unit) and see what they think. Someone from here may know as well, sorry I couldn't be much help,

If you're going to be in Hongcouver for a while - most people
take a few years to do a PhD - I might suggest getting a
Canadian PPL, and then also pick up an FAA private pilot
certificate, either via FAR 61.75 (relies on foreign) or IPL
(self-standing, with small written and medical).

Armed with a Cdn PPL and an FAA private certificate, you
can probably get some kind of Euro certificate. I expect
JAR will be total pricks about converting the PPL, but what
else would you expect from European bureaucrats?

Reminds me of when the California red wines starting
winning the blind taste tests in France a while back.
