Getting pretty late in the season for that. However if you are going to do it hit every hole in the wall. The bigger the centre the more the competion, Ft. McMurray and Yellowknife are always worth a shot.

Try Yellowknife, I heard from a friend there isn't many lurkers there right now. If you end up there be prepared for a 3 year wait on the ramp though. Good Luck.

Do you really have to wait 3 years working your ass off on the ramp to get to the right seat of a small turbo-prop or an old a/c ???
Man that is so unfair... why do i have to do that ..i would rather invest my time instructing or even teaching ground school on working for people who want you to work like a slave for 3 years to get to their a/c's.
I was reading the Buffalo airways website a while ago which says in the employment page that their pilots usually start working on the ramp and delievering shipment in the city to get to the right seat of a DC-3 l00o0o0ol....
Who wants to go all the way up north and work for 2 or 3 years on the ramp in shi***y conditions to get to a DC-3?????
I would imagen them asking me to buy my PPC's on their DC-3 too..l00o0o0ol!!!!

I would watch what you're posting about Buffalo if you know nothing about them, many people you will meet over the course of your career will have gotten their start at buffalo and won't look favourably on those types of comments. And to answer your question, if I were starting out today, I'd be up there working the ramp to get on a DC-3.

Pilot_Adam...
Do you know anywhere else where you can go from 200 hour wonder to captain of a transport catagory multi-engine aircraft in five years?

Neither do I...

I wouldn't bother wasting time to head up to mcmurray. The only company up there that hires off the ramp doesn't pay enough to survive off up there in the land of $2000 one bedroom apartments.

I should admit that i screwed up here ...
I have all respect to those warriors who left their homes and their families and travelled far away because they simply know what they want and they had the strong well to reach their dreams...
All i meant was that i do see that the industry is NOT being fair to those guys,i don't blame employers neither since insurance costs are too high, fuel prices are way too high and the competition is even higher i think they will look for the cheaper choice...
And yes i have heared of companies that would hire a 200 hrs wonder and get him into transport catagory multi-engine aircraft ,but unfortunatly it is not for you and me buddy... it is for those people who got connections and power...remember It is not what you know ,it is who u know...
Finally i apologize to allof u guys who worked their way up through hardwork.
Cheers
Adam

Good for you man. It takes alot of balls to pick and hit the road not knowing what you'll end up with. Hit YPL on your travels Wasaya just moved some guys south and moved ground guys in the right seat of the Van. My buddy has been there 15 months, went from ground crew to right seat on the Van and now right seat on the PC12

Good Luck

Buffalo is a very tough place to work. I'm working with a guy right now who spent time there. He worked from 5 in the morning till 10 at night with few days off. But he liked the guys and got along with Jo. If you are young and single and willing to put up with long hours, it can certainly get you started. I know a guy who started at Buffalo, did 3 years, moved on to Central Mountain Air did 3 years, and then on to Air Canada. Last time I heard of him he was flying an Airbus A320. Low-timer to A320 in 7years? Not bad. Thanks to Buffalo. Be careful what to say/write/type, aviation is a very small industry in Canada, and you don't want to start off making enemies. Good Luck with your job search.
